After nearly 8 months of being furloughed, I was notified today that my last day of employment with @rfa.org will be this Sunday, November 9.

Hours later I received an email that I've been named to the Board of a new website, Independence Avenue Media (indavemedia.com). Looking forward to it!

I've been going through some old photo boxes and transferring pix to digital. Today I came across this one, taken in June 1982 at the Kennedy Center when my mother and brother were visiting. It seems to be worth posting at the current time.

I met Jeff Trimble in 2008, when I joined Voice of America. Jeff had a long career in U.S. international broadcasting, and his take on the issues currently facing VOA and its partner news organizations is worth reading.

Kari Lake (USAGM 'special adviser') is emailing ‘reduction-in-force’ (termination) notices to many VOA staffers who’ve been on paid leave since mid-March. She's also axing some who were brought back to implement her Potemkin Village VOA (reaching only 0.2% of our prior audience).

"For example, RFA is no longer broadcasting to Tibetan or Uyghur audiences. Beijing has added 26 new Tibetan language frequencies and 16 new Uyghur language frequencies since the end of March, the same period when RFA began pulling back."

With the talk from the defense secretary about "warfighting," and with the 81st anniversary of D-Day approaching, I'm reminded that President Franklin D. Roosevelt said of the U.S. forces that day, "They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest." Worth remembering.
