Why is Jake Auchincloss the only member of the MA House & Senate congressional delegation not supporting the bill to restore #SNAP funding cuts? If you are in his district, put him on blast to support H.R.6088.
The other 10 MoC are united on this. #mapoli

6 of the 9 #mapoli MoC voted for this intellectually dishonest resolution. And maybe in a country with 42 million on SNAP and many more food insecure, you should be saying socialism causes hunger. Thx to members McGovern, Pressley & even Neal for not supporting this. Shame on the rest of you.
Trump is filling his government with Nazis, consolidating authoritarian power, and eroding democracy at every chance.

And yet these 86 House Democrats voted for a right-wing messaging amendment to say that the real authoritarians are the socialists.

Pathetic.

I don't think people in MA really have wrapped their heads around how bad next year's state budget is going to be for any and all social services/public good types of things. Between loss of Federal $ & a not great tax revenue outlook, it is going to be bad. Better to prepare for the worst. #mapoli

I can't listen to Sly songs without thinking of my older brother. In my mind's eye, I still a Sly & the Family Stone album he had. They paid tribute to him at the Rock Hall and listening to this music just fills my soul.

Sanders: That is a totally meaningless gesture. You can get 100 votes here and it won't mean anything because the House is not going to take it up.

You know, there is going to be what should be an open race for state rep where I live and on the blue side, we deserve something better than someone that only recently changed their voter reg to D and endorsed the Republican when the seat was last open in 2022. #mapoli

Buried in the Big Beautiful Bill were changes to food assistance that demanded “any future change be cost-neutral. Translation: no more benefit increases, even if food prices skyrocket.”

The result was “institutionalized hunger.”

National emergency. Why isn't every state calling it that?
On another note, I literally just passed a 7 blocks long queue to a food bank in NYC and they think we need weight loss drugs

So I get it, the United Way has set up a special fund that help a small amount during this emergency over #SNAP. I would suggest that your direct donation to a food pantry in your area is a better idea. Get funds to them ASAP and they can make more use of that than a food donation. #mapoli

Much appreciation to @projectbread.org & especially the incredible people on the food hotline, handing an enormous increase in calls. #SNAP #mapoli #foodinsecurity
People are hurting right now due to delays in SNAP benefits. Families are struggling to put food on the table, forcing them to make choices between groceries, bills, and other essentials. Food is not a luxury. It is a fundamental right. Call or text our FoodSource Hotline at 1-800-645-8333.

Thanks @edmarkey.bsky.social Markey for setting up a donation page to assist 3 of the largest food banks in MA. # donations are the most helpful thing you can do, especially to your local food pantries. They get more goods from $10 than your $10 of canned goods. secure.actblue.com/donate/marke...

The USDA is releasing half of #SNAP benefits which, while better than no benefits shows you exactly how mean spirited and unnecessary this was to begin with.
The fight is not over.

Granted, algorithms tend to feed you what you are posting or looking at but as much as I am seeing from all over Massachusetts about helping out with the #SNAP cutoff and #foodinsecurity, how is there not a state of emergency when >1 million people lose this lifeline? #mapoli
November 1, 2025 at 10:05 PM
So while it is good to help support out local food pantries in MA, it is far from a cure all. They cannot wave a magic wand and increase staffing & infrastructure. You cannot just immediately ramp up with little notice to accommodate many times more people.

Kudos to Gov McKee of RI for declaring a state of emergency & providing funds to partially provide SNAP benefits to 20,000 families w/children or dependents. That is the kind of concrete response you should expect, not the hand wringing in #mapoli

So according to this morning's Massachusetts Playbook, the Beacon Hill GOP caucus has called for using the rainy day fund to fund #SNAP? What am I missing here? Probably some political shenanigans. I just want people fed. #mapoli

Some have said using the MA rainy day fund to pay for #SNAP would be seen negatively in bond./financial markets.
That is at least arguable if not untrue.
Using it in an emergency to offset social & economic harm, 1/a plan to replenish the <3% needed, can be seen as a +. #mapoli

Stepping up to help #SNAP recipients is a choice. Massachusetts seems to think the state has no responsibility to act in a crisis. San Francisco is making a public/private partnership work to make people whole. #mapoli www.kqed.org/news/1206203...
