The Speckled Wood is unique in its ability to spend the winter as either a chrysalis or a caterpillar 🐛💤

Letting your grass grow long and leaving some dead plants is a great way to support this beautiful species throughout its lifecycle.

#AshlawncuttingLNR work party today. Hedge trimming, path edge cut and raked off and the last section of grassy bank cut leaving plenty uncut of everything for shelter and overwintering life stages, seed etc.
A section of layed hedge gets a trim to encourage it to thicken up. Pathedge grassland cut and raked off. The last of our large grassland banks part cut and raked off. View of the last of the large grassland banks from the top of the bank .Plenty of cover left until Springtime.

I miss the many small bakeries we used to have in every settlement in England. Each had it's own speciality and all were handy for hungry travellers. My local used to let us use spare oven space too.
