I was going to keep dry by sitting in a hide at #BrandonMarsh today but got distracted, and it wasn't as wet as the forecast suggested. Very poor light and it was difficult to get birds in focus but here's 3 of them. #Birdwatching

The Green-veined White (klein geaderd witje, P napi) is still widespread and common in NL, but numbers have halved since 1990 on Dutch Butterfly Monitoring transects. With the species preferring moist circumstances, the increasing number of droughts by climatechange surely have effect. #vlindermaand

Perhaps because of last years long dry spell when the spring fed ditch dried out the Marsh Marigolds are smaller and we've only just seen a flower at #AshlawncutingLNR. This one is a very welcome sight @wildflowerhour.bsky.social

#AshlawncuttingLNR volunteers work on alternate sundays and today 5 of us turned out to carry on coppicing Willows and adding to the impressive length of dead hedge between the marsh and the main path .

And in a sunny spell we spotted movement. "A butterfly!!!" we exclaimed as this Peacock awoke and fluttered above the Bramble before settling back. It took ages to refind but flew again and landed next to the path.
