Hello to everyone who recently followed along! (and also to those who've been here a while) I'm Steve and I'm a hobbyist wildlife photographer in eastern Canada. I post a new wildlife photo every day. I hope you enjoy the photos, and don't be shy to engage if you see something you like!
An american robin is leaning over the edge of a tree branch containing a bunch of red berries and it is grabbing a berry in its beak. An image of the April 2024 full solar eclipse, showing the full black circle of the moon as it eclipses the sun, with a halo of warm sunlight emanating from the periphery of the moon's orb. A lone eastern painted turtle rests on a semi-submerged log with a reflection of turtle and log clearly visible on the glass-like water. A blue jay is perched on a lichen-covered tree branch with an out of focus soft green background. The jay is looking over its shoulder at the camera with a sunflower seed in its beak.

If you can hold off until Black Friday, they always have a sale. 20 or 30% off, if I recall correctly.

It is Helicon Focus. It only does one thing -- focus stacking -- and it does it extremely well.

These buggers really did a number on my garden this year. "Infestation" is the word that comes to mind.

If you say "beetle poop" three times, it might appear. (Hey, it works for juice.)

My focus stacking software has this really neat feature where it will take the constituent photos from your stack and make a 3D model based on the focus depth in each photo. And it will even export it into a little video to show it at different angles So cool!

A runner-up for me is the nearby community of Rusagonis. What's that you say? Where is [Russ-a-gonn-iss]? Ahh, I see you're from away. [Rush-a-gorn-ish] is near Fredericton.

Sounds like maybe some words had been spoken over the summer and now the speakers of those words are catching up on things.

Here in southern New Brunswick we have an embarrassment of choice. But my go-to is Apohaqui, a small farming community. Go ahead, give it a try.

If you pronounced it any way but 'Appa-hawk" you're not from here. :)

We were thrilled to see this dark morph Pomarine Jaeger on my #pelagic birding tour in the #BayofFundy.

A brown gull-like bird (pomarine jaeger) is flying toward the camera with its wings spread wide. The background is the dull grey of a rainy day.

That's what usually happens. This year, however, it was above average hot summer weather right up until, well, yesterday. And then today just a couple degrees above freezing, and calling for the same for the next little while. So it seems someone has flicked the big Summer/Fall switch in the sky. :)

A Wild Turkey hen pokes around the ground, looking for something to eat. Just out of frame was a small group of prancing toms vying for her attention.

A large brown bird with an iridescent sheen on her feathers is walking with her head lowered to the ground in short grass in a clearing in the early morning sunlight.

I think it’s the latest for us too. Mind you, it was 30 degrees C a couple days ago…

This morning I performed the somber ceremony of Switching the Heat Pump from A/C Mode to Heat Mode. Always a sad day each autumn. Please respect my privacy at this difficult time.

Definitely a cool one. Had to finally turn on the heat, as it isn't going to get any warmer for a while. Sigh.

We saw a number of Common Terns on my #pelagic birding tour in the #BayofFundy. Here is a beautiful photo of a tern set against the soft pastel morning sky. As it takes a dump. :)

A smallish grey and white bird (common tern) is flying from left to right across the frame, with a stream of shit silhouetted against the beautiful golden orange morning sky.
