The Trump admin is rapidly expanding ICE's manpower — hiring more than 12,000 officers and agents over the past few months — but has reduced the agency's training requirements from 3+ months to just 6 weeks.

The implications are clear: ICE isn't here to serve or protect. They're here to terrorize.
Homeland security expert talks about ICE's truncated training after hiring blitz
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hired over 12,000 officers and reduced training time to aid with deportation efforts. Steve Inskeep speaks with a homeland security expert about that training.

The horrific killings of Keith Porter Jr. and Renee Nicole Good should serve as a wakeup call to Asian Americans and other U.S. citizens across the country: No one is safe from ICE's reign of terror. And that reign is getting bigger and bigger. 🧵⬇️

When unchecked state violence is normalized, all of our freedoms and safety are at risk.

We echo growing demands for a thorough, independent investigation into ICE’s killing of Renee Nicole Good and an end to the terror and violence ICE is inflicting on communities across the country.
January 8, 2026 at 11:38 PM
And 2025 was the deadliest year for ICE in over two decades, with 32 people dying in their custody — including six Asian people. This escalating pattern of violence culminating in Renee’s killing demonstrates how dangerous ICE has become — not just to immigrants but to all people in this country.

And it is a devastating reminder that no one is safe when immigration agents are allowed to act without transparency, integrity, or accountability.

In just the past five months, federal immigration officers have fatally shot at least three other people.

Stop AAPI Hate joins millions of people across the nation in mourning Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old woman who was shot dead by ICE in Minneapolis yesterday.

Her death was not an isolated tragedy — it was the foreseeable outcome of a militarized federal force operating with impunity. 🧵⬇️

And as the Trump admin explores ways to expand ICE's deadly facilities – including renovating industrial warehouses to detain thousands of people, according to reporting by the Washington Post – our leaders need to do more to stop this cruel cycle of family separation, unlawful detention, and abuse.

Their deaths are the devastating result of the inhumane conditions inside of ICE's facilities, from delayed medical care to inadequate food and water. This is a full-blown human rights crisis that is already escalating just a week into 2026.

For the Trump administration, the travel ban is about exclusion. It’s about keeping people of color out of America. It echoes the shameful legacy of the Chinese Exclusion Act — and as AAPI communities, we can’t allow history to repeat itself.
December 17, 2025 at 11:20 PM
Let’s be clear: this isn’t about national security or law and order. This is the same administration that is effectively shutting the door to asylum-seekers; deporting people without due process; and forcing immigrants out of line at their own citizenship ceremonies.
December 17, 2025 at 11:20 PM
Who will feel the impact of the latest travel ban?

➡️ The children, spouses, and parents of U.S. citizens with pending visas.

➡️ Palestinian families fleeing violence and persecution in Gaza.

➡️ People with pending applications to work, study, or get medical treatment in the United States.

Trump is re-escalating his immigration crackdown by expanding his racist travel ban to 39 countries. That includes 8 Asian and Pacific Island nations.

This policy will tear families apart and endanger vulnerable people from around the world, many of them Muslim and most of them people of color.
