This embodies the inherent(!) lie at the heart of Thatcherism; that it would secure the Boomers children's futures when all it did was lock up the expectation of a safety net. If your parents didn't die, you don't get the fund. When they do, it isn't the golden egg promised.
It would be harder to find a less sympathetic case, given that her parents paid £20,000 for their house which is now worth £1.2m. Why is somebody moaning about the very existence of inheritance tax a news story?
