After tinkering with it for ages, I finally finished writing an explainer for Deleuze's concept of 'univocity'. It doubles as a gentle exposition of chapter 1 of Difference and Repetition, which I hope newcomers to the book might find helpful!

The Plane of Immanence and Life What interests me is whether Wittgenstein’s idea of rule or system of rules can or cannot shed light, by some kind of isomorphism, on the relation that Deleuze establishes between the notions of chaos and the plane of immanence. In sum, the basic pseudo-propositions—that base that ignores the distinction between the true and the false—stand to genuine propositions as the plane of immanence stands to the concepts that circulate in it. And we may add that each language game, to the extent that it creates the space in which propositions can become meaningful —that is, can become propositions as such— cuts across chaos according to its particular plane and functions like a sieve, transforming events into states of affairs. Once again, basic pseudo-propositions set up a net that, when cast on chaos, may give it consistency.

The AI scientists are finally getting around to Husserl (1913)
LeCun provides a thought experiment to illustrate what he thinks might prompt—if you will—a world model, and it’s something he thinks any human can easily do that an LLM simply cannot: “If I tell you ‘imagine a cube floating in the air in front of you. Okay now rotate this cube by 90 degrees around a vertical axis. What does it look like?’ It’s very easy for you to kind of have this mental model of a cube rotating.” With very little effort, an LLM can write a dirty limerick about a hovering, rotating cube, sure, but it can’t really help you interact with one.
