Hey! Did you get an NES Classic mini console but you don't care about the manual/poster it came with? Put it to use supporting @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social! I'm seeking these out for fundraiser autograph opportunities, but need them ASAP. Let me know! Can pay!

I might check it out when I finish the main game. Is it some sorta roguelike mode?

Very exciting. I had some pretty good (albeit limited) experiences remote playing on an iPhone with a Backbone ONE, with my PS5 hardwired into my Gigabit fiber connection at home in NY and me playing on the phone on my mom's crummy wifi way down in NC.

How'd they miss the obviously better title of "Another Minecraft Movie"?

We started season 2 last night and one episode in it's great so far.

My wife finally goaded me into watching AMC's Interview with the Vampire series and I'm so glad she did. This show is fantastic.

She refers to the journalist character, Daniel Malloy, as "Anthony Bourdain't" which is a hilariously accurate burn.

I just fixed the office's old "broken" Nespresso machine and honestly I should be given a raise for all the additional productivity I just enabled.

The solve for this is a muted words list that's about 100 entries long (and growing almost daily). Ask me how I know!

Got my flu and COVID shots yesterday and my brain is definitely a bit fogged today.

Where would UMD be today if they hadn't fired Ralph Friedgen right after he won ACC coach of the year for taking the Terps to a 9-4 finish after going 2-10 the prior year, just so they could roll the dice on Randy Edsall and fail hard?

I'm also sure they were happy with the result given that the flick grossed $1B at the box office. But it could have grossed $1B and also been more than a glorified commercial for the brand.

And it's not that the Mario flick turned out bad. It turned out exactly like every other Illumination flick - very nice to look at, highly commercialized, and seriously lacking in emotional depth.

There's a reason Dreamworks has an Oscar and 13 more nominations, and Illumination has one nomination.

It's been years and I'm STILL scratching my head wondering how Nintendo was OK with Illumination making that movie. Mario is their flagship IP. They should have pressured Universal to give the film to their much-better Dreamworks Animation studio instead.

And I would have never played that DS horse game for tween girls that was actually a pretty decent knock-off of Ouenden! / Elite Beat Agents.

Yup. It was never "stealing" or "theft" because both of those require loss of ownership. If you steal a DVD from Best Buy, that's one fewer DVD that they can sell.

It was always copyright infringement, never theft. But they called it "stealing" because it sounded scarier.

Yup. It's no surprise that I left Facebook in early 2017.

The account is still active though, because my wife finds all sorts of cool stuff on marketplace that I typically pick up because that's just not a safe thing for women to do thanks to all the creeps out there :(

I fucking HATE Facebook now, but my wife and I met there in '08. We had a lot of mutual friends there and one night she saw me on the "people you might know" list. She messaged me to tell me she thought I was cute, and here we are 17 years later.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

Does old school IRC chat count as "social media" (it's basically proto-Discord, right?). If so, then yeah. The reason I started writing for Nintendo Wold Report is by being an active member of their community of readers. That volunteer writing gig taught me a lot and helped me land my actual job.

I got the 65" LG C1 OLED in early 2022 (right after the C2 debuted) and I think I paid about $2k for it at Costco? It's a great TV. At the time I think it was the only model out there with HDMI 2.1 on all four ports, so it was very well future-proofed. Competing models only had two HDMI 2.1 ports.

Kinda cray that streaming wasn’t covered by the federal CALM act, but it passed in 2010 before many (any?) streamers were even doing ads.

Shortsighted of congress not to include streamers alongside broadcast networks and cable/satellite TV providers.

But they aren't even consistent about it. We all know there are some people whose names aren't in the credits despite working on the thing.

Just this week we were all reminded that Grant Kirkhope can't even get his due credit as composer of the DK Rap in the credits of the Mario film.
