Got my Covid/flu boosters today at CVS, no muss no fuss. Walked in then booked the appointment. Thank you to all the Bskyers who said it was that easy, it was!

Discogs feels like that dirty, weird record store in town that you are 100% certain is a front for money laundering, and I love that about it

Ever read Peter Watts' "Blindsight"? It was the genesis of those convos, and it's a brilliant analysis of neurology, perception, and the human condition

Um, wait - who passed? All the guys from Sexy Beast (including Glazer) are still alive?
subterrene.bsky.social
Yeah I'm a big fan of Glazer's first movie Sexy Beast, and Under the Skin. Birth was intense, but just OK, imo. Haven't seen The Zone of Interest, I would have to steel myself for that one

though she thought they were harvesting them from the people who walked into the pool, and I thought they were bespoke. But that part of the convo, about how the skin could talk when the alien apparently had no mouth or voice cords, was prettty great.

Just a friend with an interesting history who liked dark science fiction, as I do; she said she'd disowned her family and moved to Czechia to work on life extension tech via telomeres. She dug the film and we were talking about the actual physics/mechanics of the "skin" (cont.)

Speaking of horror movies, I had some pretty amazing dm convos with a molecular biologist over on the bad site (before it got really bad) about Under the Skin. Things like how the mimetic skin would speak, generating sound via a tympanum on the surface. I miss that.

I've had moments in life where I willed myself to remember the moment, telling myself "Remember This". I can recall those memories very well, maybe not eidetically but well.

Minute/Year is an art piece/installation where the sound occurring in a space for a single minute is recorded each day. Simultaneously, the previous day’s recording is played back. So each day’s recording features something of the previous day. [kkto.net]
Minute/Year
Minute/Year is an automated, process-based, durational work, in which sound is played, recorded, and layered, in a resonant space, for one minute each day. This process has been ongoing, daily, since 2016. The location of the space in which the work runs alters annually. Over time, this has meant th

This is the most important thing to understand when you hear claims that someone will make a machine think.

Our project Clouds Without Water won't be playing the Burn the Dragon festival this year after all, it's been rescheduled to next weekend when I'll be seeing Autechre (!). Here's a video of us practicing, Angela's voice is on another plane...

The cool bit of simulation theory being proved true will be that the godlike intelligence spun up this universe and humans in particular to have a good laugh

I'm not in/from Pennsylvania, but I was for him. He seemed like somebody that could take on DJT at his supporters' level. Not that he was perfect, but sad to say, I think his stroke truly altered his personality.

Just read he's scored all but one of Cronenberg's films. Didn't know that

The soundtrack is phenomenal as well. Can you tell me if there are any other horror films from Iran?

Also: Videodrome is so incredible. Going to try to give it a rewatch before Halloween.

What's your opinion of Existenz (if you have one)?
