Watched Muppet Christmas Carol for the first time. Struck by the scene where Scrooge walks up to his darkened quarters and eats alone by the fire. It's intended to be dreadful, but damn I'm jealous! Minimalist, clean, cozy, quiet, no battery of blinking LEDs. I'd gladly live there.

I do think that the bastardized version of Monopoly so many people play is the canonical case study for trends in games over the last century: In the interest of making a kinder-gentler version of Monopoly where no one loses, the result has been an endless Sisyphean punishment for all.
Monopoly might be a bad game, but you’re making it much worse by playing it wrong.

In a grocery for a few things. At the counter, scanner not working. Clerk & customer both have phone calculators out, debating price-payment-change, cannot agree. This goes on a while. Frustrated clerk turns to me, I just hand him correct cash and say keep the coins. Debate goes on as I leave.
