Appreciate that Tech Policy Press & Jasmine Mithani recognize the important shift we are helping drive in how states respond to IBSA. These are the kinds of nuanced policy changes we can achieve when we bring all stakeholders to the table—including those who’ve caused harm. bsky.app/profile/tech...
In the United States, more legislatures are criminalizing explicit deepfakes, but experts say few are meaningfully grappling with youth offenders, Tech Policy Press fellow Jasmine Mithani reports.

"I know I haven't been involved in any sexually explicit photography…but the problem is Mary…up the road does not know that…If we don't create better legislation & stand up for this…then we will have a very different democracy."

In these male-dominated channels, women are doxed, harassed, & targeted with NDII—punished for warning each other. This isn’t just backlash; it’s a coordinated effort to silence & intimidate women who speak out. The intersection of misogyny & technology-facilitated violence is undeniable
For years, groups like NCOSE have used anti-porn advocacy as a gateway to broader censorship efforts, including restricting LGBTQ+ rights. Now, with NCMEC shifting its focus to align with these ideological forces, the question becomes: Who does this actually protect?
This move closely aligns with groups like the National Center on Sexual Exploitation whose board members have ties to SPLC-designated hate groups, including the Family Research Council & the American Family Association. These same organizations are connected to Project 2025.
NCMEC’s decision to erase any mention of trans youth under Trump’s executive order isn’t just about language—it’s about priorities. When a leading child protection organization bends to political pressure instead of focusing on all vulnerable children, it raises serious questions about its mission.
Love when I check the CDC for medical guidance & find it being rewritten by Trump- who thinks “science” is a conspiracy, wanted to see if disinfectants could be applied to the lungs, & pushed hydroxychloroquine creating a shortage of a drug lupus & rheum arthrtits pts depend on
Some, like Delegate Amanda Batten, still think that consent is a lifetime contract arguing that once you consent to a partner taking an intimate photo or video, you lose all rights to prevent them from further distributing it to others
Former candidate for Delegate, @susannasgibson.bsky.social testifies in Crim sub in support of Del Williams HB2654 to expand & clarify the law surrounding dissemination of intimate images of another without permission and maliciously. (Her campaign was notable for such a dissemination.)

It's particularly satisfying to put the Twitter Files bloggers on blast on the platform where they've spread their lies (Substack), in a publication that is challenging their reach (@contrariannews.org).

I received an anonymous email - the contents horrified me
There, on an alternative porn website, were doctored images and videos with my face on other people’s bodies: ‘deepfakes’.

NEW from me: 68% percent of Virginia's adults are overweight or obese.

As states look to tackle the issue and the costly health problems that come with it, #VALeg is considering expanding access to GLP-1 drugs for low-income individuals in the name of public health.

Thanks for sending your own amicus brief.

I’ll read it inbetween trying to get abuse material of myself and others off the internet.
To frame this as “free speech” ignores the harm caused and misinterprets the purpose of the First Amendment, which was designed to protect discourse, not acts of violence that silence and dehumanize others.
Additionally, this conduct undermines the rights of victims to bodily integrity and personal security—rights that are fundamental to any functioning democracy.
The Supreme Court has held that certain categories of speech, such as obscenity, true threats, & speech integral to criminal conduct, fall outside First Amendment protection. NDII falls squarely into these exceptions, as it is integrally linked to criminal conduct
