I'm so honoured to be a supervisor for Hendrix Hennessy-Ropiha's MA work on this important subject (of place, loss, & suicide, in Aotearoa).

His photography exhibition is open now, in Levin, till 2nd July. There will also be a group kōrero for those interested, this Sunday. #mentalhealth

For the #knitsky crew... @terinskyweaver.bsky.social designs the most incredible patterns featuring custom sigils, designed in response to lived experience of disability & chronic pain.

This one is 'Hope Grows Roots'. Also check out 'Way Home' (short for 'may your pain guide the way home').

Excited to launch a new knitting pattern with Matariki and the solstice.
Here is the Hope Grows Roots Cowl, a 2 or 3 colour repeating pattern suggestive of leaves and flowers. Inspiring us as we turn hopes into stitches and actions for a better world together. 🧶 #knitsky

Trust the mess? 😅 A beautiful, slightly chaotic writing workshop this morning, and I am now in-process of constructing a 'mega-zine of micro-fiction'.

Thank you to the twelve wonderful writers who shared this space with me ❤️. I cant wait to share our 'Speculative Dictionary of Climate Emotion'

I've been in a whirlwind myself, so decided to extend this deadline out another 9 days, in case anyone else has been caught up in other things, but still wants time to organise a submission. I would love to receive your words. #ethnography #anthropology #poetry sha.americananthro.org/awards/ethno...

It's been difficult to find words for an event that was such a dream come true. My deepest appreciation to all the artists, dancers, writers, scholars, & filmmakers, that joined us for Energy-in-Motion. I am holding onto the sense of movement, reflection, passion and compassion I found there

Big gorgeous writerly weekend ahead. Honestly sometimes I can't believe how lucky I am to be involved in the things I get to do.

So much going on right now (including flying out to the UK in a few hours) but I did want a tiny pause to celebrate what arrived in the mail yesterday. My book exists! Thank you to the many, many people that supported this www.routledge.com/Ethnography-... #ethnography #anthropology #ethnographic

A snapshot of just one of the epic+strange things I get to do! This was D/WELL: an art intervention set up in the middle of the student common room, and co-created over 6hrs yesterday. I'll present more about it at the Energy-in-Motion conference energyethics.st-andrews.ac.uk/energy-in-mo...

Really excited to have put this together! Engaging with 'performance as research' has pushed me to be comfortable running events where I don't control the outcome. I'm so curious to see what emerges from this one... & to talk about it at energyethics.st-andrews.ac.uk/energy-in-mo...

Excited to announce the 2025 SHA ethnographic competition is OPEN.

We have tweaked the call for submissions to provide some new provocations, and @atreyee.bsky.social, Minke Nouwens and are running a free online workshop.

It's going to be a good year.

Absolutely ok to share! I'm always glad when people find it useful.

One day I will make an updated version... though my fear (and perhaps the point) is that it is ever expanding and will inevitably cease to fit in the page

Thanks to @sketchesbyboze.bsky.social for reminding me of this Ursula K. le Guin quote.
"Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape? The money lenders, the know-nothings, the authoritarians have us all in prison; if we value the freedom of the mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can."

My lovely (11yo) daughter schemed up this event because she wanted to show adults that "just because we are small, doesn't mean we think small or feel small".

I am excited to help her present it as part of the #Dunedin Fringe Festival.

Kids rego here: forms.gle/YrqrSiv1teRj...
Image is a poster for an art event called 'Art at Heart: Kids art exhibition'. The posters has a yellow and pink background, with a black Dunedin Fringe Festival logo at the bottom.

There is a photograph of a young girl, surrounding by art and craft items (such as paint and pens) that are arranged to look like a heart, a rain cloud, and a lightning bold.

Pink writing at the top says 'Theme: Big Emotions'
A box has text saying "Otepoti Dunedin Kdis aged 13 and under can register to take part before March 10th (Scan SQ code for more info & rego form)"

Another yellow box has the exhibition dates, and the venue:

EXHIBITION OPEN (FREE ENTRY):
Mon 17th - Fri 21st March: 3.30pm - 6pm
Sat 22nd March: 10am - 4pm
Sun 23rd March: 10am - 2pm

VENUE: #63 Hanover Street
And join in on our collaborative canvas, when you visit!

It also says 'sponsored by' with the logos for the University Book Shop, and for Art Zone.

It was great to be part of compiling this teaching tool, following a workshop at @soasuni.bsky.social last year.

The writing exercise I propose (entitled the 'Speculative Dictionary of Climate Emotion') is in the section on 'Grappling with Distress'.

A colourful logo that is a pinwheel shape, made of 9 separate triangles, in a rainbow of colours and textures (including woven fabric, rusted metal, honeycomb, moss, paint, glass, fish scales, clouds, and charcoal).
