Question for @natetice.bsky.social @fourverts.bsky.social

Per NGS: Bears D is 31st in RYOE and 28th in EPA/rush on runs outside the tackles

They’re 15th and 13th respectively on runs inside the tackles

How much do you think absence/return of Kyler Gordon and TJ Edwards could close this gap?

Football 301’s week 6 preview is out now!

@fourverts.bsky.social joins me as we get lost in the sauce with 49ers-Bucs, Lions-Chiefs, and Bears-Commanders.

Plus, one thing on Seahawks-Jags & Bills-Falcons for our first Cheat Sheet and Hail Mary’s!

Fun show for a fun week of games.

Monstrous:

Not to defend Rap, but isn’t he just saying that Bears were expected to take a tackle in the 1st rd?

@kfishbain.bsky.social - has anyone on the beat asked him if he’s going to wear the Guardian Cap this year? Feels like a huge question that I haven’t heard anything on
swishasweetener.bsky.social
Not sure if this would move @sethwalder.bsky.social “D” grade 😂, but I think it moved my own mental grade closer to a “C+”

I was/am worried abt indications of Grady Jarrett's declining play, so went searching for signs of optimism. Guys coming off an ACL tear often need about a half-season to return to form. Jarrett's second-half of 2024 looked much more in-line with his '22 or '21 form. Hopefully that continues #Bears

Dayo’s sacks totals last year are misleading. Kwity got a much of the cleanup. Dayo’s rate of pressures converted to sacks was v low so he’s a good positive regression candidate

Do you think they work Jarret in at NT some? His pass rush juice seems to have sapped with age+ACL
swishasweetener.bsky.social
I like the Odeyingbo signing much more that the Jarrett one.

Some similarities w/ Walker in terms of moving inside on PR situations, but Dayo wins w/ speed more

Via NGS

Quick Pressures
Walker:
‘24: 9

Dayo:
‘24: 14

Getoff
Walker: 0.90s
Dayo: 0.82s

Time-to-sack:
Walker: 5.24 s
Dayo: 4.26 s
swishasweetener.bsky.social
Jarret’s NGS based “get-off” has slowed from 0.95s in ‘20 to 1.06 in ‘24 (that’s roughly going from Jeffrey Simmons to Gervon Dexter)

quick pressures:
‘20: 21
‘24: 7

I hope he has something left in the tank. I wonder if the Bears plan to mix him in at NT given declining pass rush impact?
swishasweetener.bsky.social
I hope @adamhoge.bsky.social is right... but the declining advanced stats don't look great for Grady Jarrett:

Get-off (from NFL-NGS):
2020: 0.95 sec
2022: 1.03 sec
2024: 1.06 sec

Quick-Pressures:
2020: 21
2022: 9
2024: 7

Booker is a bowling ball, but he has the 5th slowest 10 yard split of any prospect in Mockdraftable's database (going back to two decades). He wasn't an obvious top-10 pick before the combine... I don't think there's any chance he goes top-10. Love @danebrugler.bsky.social , but feels like a stretch

Look, I’m basically Schrags 😂 The Bears have incompetent ownership, but it’s humble, loyal and well-meaning incompetency (as opposed to meddlesome or hostile). Always thought the ownership stuff was overblown (even if Warren is a wildcard). Sorry @nickbaumgardner.bsky.social, I’m not usually right
swishasweetener.bsky.social
Long suffering Bears fan, and I think you’re probably right about this. However, if they do somehow miraculously land Johnson, I think it will be because he and Poles share some common ground. They’re essentially the same age, both played college ball in the ACC. Both played on the offensive side.
swishasweetener.bsky.social
And so utterly predictable… it remains Ryan Poles biggest misstep (worse than the Chase Claypool trade, the Nate Davis signing etc)
