I can see only two reasons a company would want to make such a seemingly reputationally suicidal statement.
1. I'm in an internet bubble and most people actually love 'AI' as a buzzword.
2. This statement is not for consumers, but rather shareholders who love 'AI' as a buzzword.

In cyber security they have "bounties" available whereby users can submit bug reports where they found a vulnerability in popular software and receive a financial reward. That whole field is currently dealing with an influx of useless AI slop bug reports haha.

When you consult actual researchers in the field of AI (or anyone who has no massive incentive to inflate stock price for investors) then predictions on anything are always much more conservative.

I heard an interesting perspective on why tech CEO's warn of the dangers of AI destroying all humans despite it being seemingly contrary to their business ventures. It states that by attributing agency to AI software, AI companies take the blame off themselves for AI's ethically bad behavior.
