...game grip on 1st place. Fernandez tired after six permitting 1 run on the only extra base hit he allowed, but Johnny Ray's 2-run double with 2 out in the top of the 9th tied the game. Roger McDowell wriggled out of extra trouble to pick up the W and Jim Gott took the L, facing only 2 batters.
