It’s horrifying to watch - living this is nearly unimaginable.

Uni friend of husband lives there - and his Colombia-born, US-citizen wife has not left their home for weeks. And will not. Scared of being targeted for what she looks like.

The Carney government’s refusal to take the smallest steps against Musk’s CSAM microblogging site reflects the toxic mix of Carney’s strategy of not upsetting the US lest they punish us at the negotiating table, and his FOMO-driven AI policy.
We’re starting to see the fatal flaws in both strategies.

This year the BC government set the wealth test for the HOG at above $2M, while renters get income tested at around $65k (adjusted net family income) for the full tax credit and get less money than the HOG for e.g. my condo.
(Yes, this is my annual call to get rid of the HOG)

New election? This gov’t hasn’t fulfilled its #BCed promises from the last one. Now public education is being shortchanged at the bargaining table. Students deserve the same level of investment as the BCGEU contract.

Teachers know what kids need – more time, more support, and more resources. Add your voice and tell government it’s time to deliver on better classroom conditions.

When a government uses the notwithstanding clause to silence workers, every Canadian loses a piece of their rights. Danielle Smith just set a dangerous precedent. Shame on you!! @daniellesmithab.bsky.social I stand with Alberta teachers #StandWithTeachersAB

When he says “record education funding” he means in nominal terms — and forgets to mention that nominal funding is almost always at record highs.

On a per-student basis, and after adjusting for inflation? It isn’t even close.
The notwithstanding clause is literally about stripping charter rights that can’t be reasonable suppressed under section 1.

But anyways, Danielle Smith’s left hand guy has some thoughts that he’s comfortable tweeting…

As Alberta pushes teachers away with bad bargaining, BC has a chance to lead. Respect and real investment in education could make this province a magnet for teachers. @lisabeare.bsky.social @davidebybc.bsky.social @bcndpcaucus.bsky.social

If the Liberals invited a convicted pedophile to speak to the cabinet about how to better protect children, would you defend that?
Then you shouldn't be defending this, either.
You don't ask monsters how you should fight monsters. Because they're liars and also, monsters.

There is a pattern emerging in labour negotiations: do not bargain if you are management and force the union to go on strike. Union goes on strike, becomes the bad guy, then the Liberal government steps in with binding arbitration, and the public forgets the labour dispute happened at all.
