Even if the blocklist is made by someone with good intentions, I still reject the idea in spirit and in principle, to let someone else decide who you should block without you coming to that conclusion on your own. It's part of existing online, just like any other social skill.
Signal boosting this too! You are responsible for your social media usage! And “delegating” it doesn’t remove your responsibility.. just removes your right to speak up when you have to explain yourself because you didn’t do it yourself

as a lesbian myself, i've been accused of "fetishizing" lesbians because people don't like that my female characters have large chests, are sexy, are sex workers, have sex, etc.
even though i have a diverse range of female characters, the fact that SOME of them have sex makes people uncomfortable.

i agree there's a massive problem with people refusing to engage with lesbian media or female characters in general but i also feel like a lot of people advocating for more wlw representation are just... really prudish about female relationships and want them to be extremely tame and sexless.

With follow lists you can discover a ton of new artists and creators you might not otherwise have come across, and if you end up following someone you don't like you can quickly and easily unfollow them.
With blocklists, you might never know someone you might have liked was unfairly put on one.

I recommend using follow lists, but I really encourage you to avoid blocklists if you can help it. At the very least make sure you vet who actually made the blocklist and be absolutely certain nobody was added for petty bad faith reasons.

really the only advice I can give both new and old users is don’t sub to blocklists, because people use them for revenge and trolling and you’ll end up blocking people you like 💀

and remember: ANYONE is capable of ANYTHING. do not put it past a person to abuse because they are nice to you and others. some of the most socially, physically, etc. vicious people i know also have the strongest veneers of respectability and empathy.
