So far, lots on updating & repairing military homes -which is crucially important & overdue- but nothing much on culture, integration or addressing retention issues beyond pay increases. My research shows this won't be sufficient to meet needs of personnel so keen to see what's in the SDR on this
📣 Watching #Defence Secretary John Healey's Commons statement on the #SDR and am intrigued by the announcement to increase to 76,000 Full-time Regulars in the #BritishArmy - interested to see what will be done to get there and how current personnel will be better supported in the process
With only two weeks to go, I’m really looking forward to taking part in the Future Maritime Leaders’ Simulation at the First Sea Lord’s Sea Power Conference 2025 🌊 Many thanks to the team at the @congeostrategy.bsky.social for the opportunity! #SPC2025

Excited to be back in Cambridge (thankfully not to do any assignments this time…) for the Centre for Military Women’s Research Conference at @angliaruskin.bsky.social 📚 The theme is military women’s health & well-being - a topic close to my heart & I’m really looking forward to the presentations 👏
🌊 I’m very excited to have been accepted into the @congeostrategy.bsky.social’s Maritime Leaders Programme, part of their #SeaPowerLaboratory! Yesterday was a great start to the programme feat. a panel on policymaking and a policy workshop on defence spending. Looking forward to the next session 📚
Yesterday, we hosted the first Maritime Leaders' Programme event at The Army and Navy Club!

⚓ We were delighted to be joined by @c21st-sailor.bsky.social, Associate Director, #SeaPowerLaboratory, Baroness Stuart, @houseoflords.parliament.uk, and James Waller, @houseofcommons.parliament.uk
📣 Get those abstracts in! This is going to be a great opportunity to learn about successful publishing strategies in the field of War and Security Studies. We can't wait to hear from you and to see everyone at #BISA2025 in Belfast soon ⏰

Huge thanks to the Women's Inclusive Network DE&S for inviting me to speak as part of their #IWD programme! 👏

My talk 'Making Defence Work for Women' focused on topics like the importance of exploring policy versus practice & empathy as a moral & operational imperative 📣

Perhaps, but you still have to crew a navy for the next 20 to 30 years, a period in which a lot can happen. And then the human burden doesn't necessarily disappear after you build a fleet of autonomous ships.

"Admiral Sir Ben Key, the head of the navy, is understood not to have asked for more sailors in his submission to the review, believing that in 20 to 30 years destroyers and frigates will be autonomous." www.thetimes.com/uk/defence/a...
Military numbers unlikely to increase after defence review
Budgetary and recruitment constraints will affect the size of the armed forces but a ‘homeland defence force’ could result in greater co-operation with emergency services

Great to be back @rusi.bsky.social for the annual RUSI-EDG Debate 🎤 Even better to get a bit of respite and watch this year rather than taking part!! Good luck to the teams 👏

"Gender equity isn't just a matter for a few passionate women to address. It's a matter of knowledge" - Frida Linehagen

I had a fantastic time chairing today's panel b/w Women in #Defence UK & Femme Defence on pursuing #genderequity across defence. Huge thanks to our panellists for their insights 👏
I'm really looking forward to chairing this session on Monday with Women in Defence UK & Femme Defence on how we can support gender equity across #defence 🤝 For more information and to register, check out the link below 👀 (code: WIDGUEST)

Here’s a starter kit with PhD and ECR voices on all things strategic studies/ security studies, without a specific geographic scope.

I’m still building it, so if you know PhDs/ ECRs actively posting (or are one), tag them or drop me a line.

Amazing, thanks for setting this up Gesine!
After being obsessed with this subject for ages, to find my name listed here was such a fantastic surprise! If you're interested in #ontologicalsecurity and #insecurity, check out the starter pack below 👇
Following the recent trend on Bluesky and in the hope that more of us will soon join the "good place," I’ve created a starter pack for those studying ontological (in)security in global politics 🤓
