That takes a sort of preparation that most people don't have but can learn, if given the opportunity to do so. Inspiration is often the first step people need to get started down the path to actual preparation.

I do not think that Star Wars, or really very many different pieces of media have truly prepared people for the coalition building, community action, etc., or really any other real, required action hard times actually require.

In my experience people tend to mean that a piece of media has inspired them, rather than actually prepared them, for an moment, event, etc. They saw something, felt something, and now the feelings they felt are bubbling up again and inspiring them to take action.

I think that there's some mismatched definitions and misuse of language in these situations.

"They can't do that!"
They did and, therefore, can.
Should they? No.
Should they be able to? No.
The reality is that they did.
So now what do we do, knowing that they can do basically whatever they want?

I said it before, will say it again -- generative AI fetishizes "ideas" while sneering at effort, execution, and education. That, despite Gen-AI being built on and out of other people's effort, execution and education.
A.I. and the Fetishization Of Ideas
In writing and in dispensing my (very dubious, probably shady) writing advice, I am often keen to note that ideas are bullshit. Most writers treat them like precious gems when really, ideas are lik…

Here's a simple happiness hack:

Do something for someone that is truly altruistic. Do it in secret if you can, and take no credit, if you can manage that in a world that sees everything.

Do this as often as your circumstances allow, which may be once a year or once a day.

Try it and see.

In a society of "product" over "process," people like this will probably always exist. In my mind it's nearly the same as plagiarism, with the main difference being at least a plagiarist had to face what they were doing and knowingly do it. Slop artists get to think they made something new.

Having lived in many places throughout my life, I can tell you with some assurety that every single place says, "welcome to [insert locale here], where you can experience all four seasons in a single day!"

That's just weather. You're just having normal weather. And need to travel more.

I think one of the most frustrating parts of conscious existence is the need for hope. You have to believe that things will get better, that something is worthwhile, that your effort will amount to something. If not, why do it? We often fail, but still must keep hope, over and over again.
