Epstein’s economic power among academics was made possible by a capitalist system that makes higher education dependent on the charity economy rather than a public good supported by taxing the rich

I think working in the 3-article format has been the hardest part of my dissertation. It appeared early on as this convenient thing but i struggle to separate article brain from chapter brain

I have graded an astonishing number of undergraduate students who write "that just goes and shows" instead of "that just goes to show" and I scoffed at this until I said it out loud and felt the rush.

Just goes and shows is prose, it flows

Pretty awesome news this week that helps to lighten up an otherwise upsidedown-land job market experience

Congratulations to María Corina Machado on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Her courageous fight for democracy in Venezuela is a reminder that socialism doesn’t lift people up, it holds them down. We continue to stand with the Venezuelan people in their pursuit of freedom, democracy, & opportunity.

Meanwhile Mayor Johnson’s budget - you know, the “progressive one” that “taxes the rich” to give to CPD inflates that budget to over HALF of our total corporate fund. And continues to borrow to pay off misconduct settlements.

Aw shucks I signed up for the good military and all I got is this bad military
National Guard aren’t ICE or Border Patrol. They didn’t sign up looking to harass and repress people. They’re volunteers, part time, in case of emergency. They didn’t ask for this.

West Virginia National Guard shouldn’t have been deployed in Washington DC.

Victims of the shooter and the president.

New: Google has chosen a side in Trump's mass deportation campaign. Google is hosting a CBP facial recognition app to hunt immigrants; no indication Google will remove. At same time Google takes down apps for reporting ICE sightings

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!
