1. Breaking the rules ≠ cheating necessarily. But it is still breaking the rules. Either burned rock rules need to be overhauled and rewritten, or Canada need to accept it and adjust their delivery.

1b. Curling needs to have officials officiate.

Today had a lot going on.
Valentine's Day parties at school.
100th Day of School.
Lunar New Year Parade at kid's school.
Olympic curling drama.

I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them
What a moment.

Ok, WAS that Pedro Pascal on the porch during the half time show, or am I going (more) insane?

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people.

But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.
The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.

I'm taking a personal day on Friday (woo, curling), but I will be wearing blue all day after our game.

Sending love and courage and support to Minnesota teachers.
Wear blue this Friday, Jan. 23 in solidarity with Education Minnesota! They’re holding a Day of Action to demand that ICE stay away from our schools. We’re joining them because we understand what affects one of us affects all of us. #WEareNJEA #ICEOutSchools

I went and did it, and paid an exorbitant amount in ticketing fees via an agency.

But we are going to Australia and Japan this year. In one trip. With a 6 year old.

Thank you, Jeopardy.

Last night I fell on the curling ice, and got a tap on my head. Then had a lovely visit from the paramedics, who confirmed that yes I am fine.

My pride is hurt. I was so mad that I did something so stupid that I lost it. May have chucked my broom at the boards.

This thread is about teaching.

Video WHAT curling club?!?!

[opens email with trepidation]

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Analysis.

Perhaps we should workshop a new subject line.

Please, #curling clubs... Please. Don't use AI Slop for "try curling!" promotion graphics leading up to the Olympics. People we're trying to reach already know little enough about the sport without getting further confused by.... whatever AI thinks curling is. (Hockey with kettle bells, apparently.)

A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

Dunno if anyone else here is that specific type of geriatric millennial who spent a lot of time in Japan, but Fukuyama Masaharu and Inaba Koshi just teamed up for a duet...

hey remember when a bunch of middle-aged drunk korean lawmakers climbed the locked gates to the national assembly to hold an emergency session after the president gave illegal orders to the military, all of which ended with said president being sentenced to prison

As the great Suketu Mehta wrote in the accompanying essay, "By 1643, only nineteen years after the first Walloon settlers founded New Amsterdam, 18 languages were already being
spoken in the city—among a population of a mere 500." To hell with fictions of a homogenous past, linguistic & otherwise.

Catching up on the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony and there have been some amazing performances and speeches.

But I bawled through most of Cyndi Lauper's performance. I would ride into battle for that woman.

Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.

"Do you guys have a protocol if someone hits their head?"
"Yeah... Did someone hit their head?"
"Me."
"Oh... You're ok though, right? Do you need, like an ice pack?"

Wish me luck.

The wee one was given #curling homework: practice the slide position.

I've realized she might be a lefty curler like her goofy-footed, right-handed Mum.
