Howdy! I'm Laura, the founder and Temple Mom of Ariadne's Tribe, a fully inclusive Minoan spiritual tradition (polytheist / animist). I'm keen on gardening, herbalism, and pre-industrial skills like spinning and weaving. Happy to be here!

I bet it's beautiful! Oddly, the leaves are slow to change here this year. Most of the trees are still green. It's weird.
As an author and artist, I'm a small business trying to be seen in the crowded marketplace. Each week, I share one of my creations; maybe one of them will ring your chimes. Up this week: The Last Priestess of Malia.

We had to evacuate several frogs from the pineapple plants before moving the plants indoors for the winter. Some were easier to "persuade" than others! I garden because I love doing it, but it's also a part of my spiritual practice, a communion with the plants that provide our food and medicine.
The goldenrods are looking especially spectacular this year. What native plants are blooming in your area?

That's not a dead leaf - it's a butterfly! We've had a few butterflies this summer, not as many as we used to have before the area was so heavily developed, but their local populations are still hanging on.

Though I will note that many Northern transplants to our area do attempt to grow English peas, with varying success. They're definitely not a traditional crop here.
Georgia, just north of Atlanta. But the use of "field peas" and the not-planting-English-peas applies to the entire American South, with the possible exception of some higher elevations where English peas can be grown.
English peas are uncommon around here. We don't have a long enough cool season for them to grow successfully.
Common names are always a challenge. If you want to start a fight around here, just declare which plant you call "yellow root."
This week's Minoan Tarot cards offer sage advice for navigating these Interesting Times. This deck is my creation, made the old-fashioned way (ink on paper) and available at bookstores everywhere.

Yes, they're a type of cowpea, also called field peas where I live. There are a number of different varieties of peas that are called field peas here, including black eyed peas, white acre peas, and this variety, which is called Iron And Clay.

The decline of third spaces and hangouts, such as malls, video rental places, arcades & skate parks has been a direct result of the rise of convenience and has also been objectively bad for society as a whole. Its not that everyone HAS to socialize, but having no option to without bars is a failing.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

At least four things I haven't reposted today not because they didn't have alt text but because the alt text was only of use/interest to those who could already see the picture. Yes it was funny, but not if you can't see what it was referencing.
If I have to write the alt text to go with your post because you didn't I'm probably not going to repost it.
The tree frogs have seriously taken up residence in the field pea vines. First frost is coming soon, and the vines will die. I guess at that point the frogs will shelter in the mulch made by the fallen vines.

This week's Substack is about Minoan astronomy and the star maps that we've constructed to go with the Minoan mythos in Ariadne's Tribe.
