Missed this thing even if I care about sand. But love the zoom-out and thinking about the fundamental part of science; to be willing to be wrong, to be willing to listen to conflicting evidence.

Lithosphere sure, yes! But earth twins should also be scalable - to make them relevant for local hazards we need to move water and sediment around and allow for a changing earth surface geoscientist.online/sections/vie...
Earth twin needs geoscience - GEOSCIENTIST
As society turns to Earth Digital Twins for decision-making, geoscience must play a defining role, urges Pankaj Mishra.

Crazy idea: an aircraft carrier iceberg that floats around in the Atlantic Ocean, so that no-one would need to built bases on other people's territory. Would that be possible? Oh, guess what we are reading in Geomorph seminar? doi.org/10.3189/S002...

As sea ice retreats, waves matter more. Models show wave events resuspend sediment on the Beaufort Sea shelf, reversing net transport westward despite eastward currents. This affects coastal change & carbon fate in the Arctic. Read more: agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...

Prairie around us is so wind-scoured after the storm events of this early winter. It's been dry since October and this is an area with a large prairie-dog colony - so more sparsely rooted and vegetated. I estimate we lost several cm's of topsoil.

The western US is in a snow drought, and storms have been making it worse
A major atmospheric river brought record precipitation to the Pacific Northwest, yet the snow and water supply still suffered. It’s a growing problem.

Greenland is its own place and belongs to their people!
Working on scientific questions on Greenland's rivers and coasts, where Greenlanders live, has always been collaborative. It could not have happened without support. I feel so deeply troubled by propaganda and invasion threats.
