I've had 40+ new followers today, and no idea why.

Anyways, if you're new here, hello!

I'm Dave, I mostly post about gaming stuff, cooking, and when the weather's nice, gardening.

I follow back chaotically, as the mood strikes. And I block alt right chuds.

Like, instead of improving her weak gun combat skill, my wife decided her character needed a better skill rating in Electronics (Remote Ops) because being the ship's drone pilot seemed a lot more useful than being able to hit more often with a rifle.

This would never happen in d&d

I really like how there isn't an assumption of combat in traveller. Like, you can just play the game - you don't need to shoot people or whatever.

I'm also impressed that my usually trigger happy players are okay with this.

It's a lot of fun.

There's a first act that involves interviewing people while at a navy space station under construction.

Then PCs travel to the wreck, a decompressed ship in the ice rings of a gas giant.

Then they find evidence of awfulness, and have to figure out whodidit, before they get blamed for the crime.

Accidentally wrote a whole-ass Traveller adventure, based on a two sentence pitch if a player bites.

It interests me, so I might actually take time to develop it.

Basically, the travellers are aircraft accident investigators (in SPAaaAace!) trying to figure out if there's a cover-up

Oh wow, those cuisines would absolutely pair together nicely

I'm intrigued about three sisters stew. I'm thinking butternut squash, some sort of bean (chickpeas!), and corn? Maybe in chicken stock and some sage or something?

All the dlc + wotc. Usually I can do commander without losing anyone, or maybe one or two.

I've had a wipe twice so far, and I'm not even at the first terror mission.

Started replaying XCOM 2 for the first time in a few years, and I'm doing a lot worse than I used to - ppl dying on every mission.

Either the game got updated to be harder, or I've become dumber.

To all my American friends... I fully endorse what this guy is saying.

I even live on the same island.

Rhod Gilbert is someone I identify with so heavily. Which is kind of worrying, tbh.

Yeah, that's weird.

But hey, does "Dave" taste at all like "David"? I'm kind of imagining my name tastes like shortbread.

Or, possibly, Corned Beef.

She really caught the anxiety in my eyes. And the fact that I have no eyebrows.

Got a portrait done of me. The artist is amazing - she's going places.
A picture of me, glasses, beard, and all, done in sharpie. Overhead, in a child's writing, it reads "Daddy""

I had to write a Wikipedia type article for the species for our wiki (not gonna link, sorry).

Wife is super stoked about the critters... And wants to attend the next Hooded Mollie race.

It'll be interesting to see if the other players bite, and the idea of newspaper summaries gains traction.

I've written a half dozen hooks for the party, and we'll see where they go from there! But one of the players chose to be from a mining planet that is the setting for one of the adventures I own, so that's a good start.
tetrapod.bsky.social
Rest of the Traveller party was built.

We've got a Bwap (think amphibian alien) Field Researcher science guy, a Vargr (wolf person) pirate, and an Ursa (bear person) former cop turned Merchant.

Plus, they got a ship! A janky Far Trader that reeks of fuel and has a broken computer.

SWEET.

Oh man, I love XCrawl, but of my group, only one player has any familiarity with sports culture + 1980s dystopian films like The Running Man.

It just wouldn't land right, and this makes me sad.
tetrapod.bsky.social
Right now I have a Scout who joined the Navy, and a Navy draftee who left to join the Scouts. Which is kinda funny.

I'm ~expecting~ a scientist/physician type, and a bureaucrat alien of some sort. And I have a wild card player who, well, is a wildcard.

But who knows how itll all end up?
tetrapod.bsky.social
Absolutely agree w this. If you see someone drowning, you'll pull them free.

You only argue AGAINST saving someone from drowning when they've become a hypothetical, and you're trying to score points for your "team".

here's my take: I think humans are really fucking good. inherently. I think we are amazingly kind and giving. and everything about the world we live in is an attempt to stop us from being that. I think our societies step in to stop us from being good. I think our culture punishes us. but we ARE good
tetrapod.bsky.social
Running dungeon crawl classics tomorrow, but since one of my players is expecting, and another player is her fiance, I'm already planning a side campaign for the inevitable days where they can't make it to a session.

Which means, a few players will make Traveller characters tomorrow. Exciting!

10 years on Youtube: Ugh this narrator has audible plosives and other minor audio errors that will bug me.

Now on Youtube: Plosives! That means it's a real human talking, not a goddamn AI narrator

Just submitted my biggest module manuscript ever. All told, it's around 20k words, and still isn't 100% complete.

Just got blasted on messenger by an old friend who's going through stuff because I keep giving her unsolicited advice.

I checked. The last time I did that was early August... When I asked her if she'd considered travelling.

Shes so frustrated everyone abandons her, but has no desire to adapt.

Started doing some prep for my Traveller campaign.

Basically, I'm taking side quests from every video game I can think of, and statting out enough to run if players bite.

Escort missions, collect 5 of one item, go to point A, etc.

The game feels easy(ish) for sandbox style play.

More guns than people…

Is it freedom or a national death cult that keeps growing?
