Excited to share our new paper about water quality in Kampala’s Lubigi wetland.

Stormwater/sewage overloads wetland’s treatment capacity, causing persistent microbial contamination. Wetlands are vital buffers, but robust infrastructure and source control are essential.

Please do use this worksheet that we labored over for quite some time, and even tested with users! It’s a good starting point for thinking about specific wildfire-related interventions that water systems can undertake (figure alt text in responses)
@edithdeguzman.bsky.social, @fkearns.bsky.social and I came up with a "menu" that is included as a worksheet in the appendix to our "Water Systems’ Wildfire Fighting Capacities and Expectations" report released last week.

Genau…

Only 19% of peatlands are in protected areas — and many still face drainage and degradation.
True protection needs laws, enforcement, and inclusion of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and women in management.

Check out new work published recently documenting intensification of the hydrologic cycle across S. New England. Wet periods are becoming more intense, and so have droughts ... but wet periods are winning out!

Experimental evidence that students are more likely to contest grades when they are delivered by an evaluator with a female-sounding name.

"These findings suggest that women in evaluative positions face disproportionate resistance when delivering negative assessments."
