Made my first Blocklist, feel free to share it:

Preventing discoverability would all but enable direct image insertion inside of DMs, which I've seen folks ask for before (would still be on firehouse tho, so ymmv).

ok, sleep time I'm super fucking tired.
g'night

DMs being unencrypted/open to access by devs, means it wouldn't hide the connection between image/burner accts and DM accounts, to admins, and if you use new settings to prevent notifications on burner posts, you could almost use it like private images?
thebigbadme.bsky.social
Ok, I think I realized a really janky way to get some form of image into DMs: if there is a skeet whose preview contains an image, and you paste a link to that skeet inside a DM, the preview contains the image in the DM. Using a throwaway account to just skeet an image, avoids public context link.

*correction you can launch a channel with a hot button in the remote to avoid dealing with the popover, 🏠 wont do shit, that's how we got into the command menus without getting rid of the set-up popover
thebigbadme.bsky.social
*Simply launching a streaming service and getting to a playback transition into a commercial break (not lead-in ad) seems to be enough to crash.
thebigbadme.bsky.social
It is not difficult to turn this instability into a crash, as you can clean up the popover by pressing 🏠.

It doesn't always manifest as a UI rendering glitch, I get crashes streaming*.

I'm still not saying it's useful, a lot of these things aren't, but I'm chasing it. And now I'm on it's scent.

One take away seems ro be that whatever connection state a network object has when it enters check flow, is copied back to the object as part of finalization/cleanup? the main state machine seems to recognize the connection, but the connection set-up interface doesn't know to go away.
thebigbadme.bsky.social
There's still a lil bit of a timing race for making he stupid thing glitch like this, {do things} above was aimed at making the device run slower, which I almost always do when I can, because it makes things easier to hit by accident.
thebigbadme.bsky.social
normally, if a check is abandoned, the state doesn't change from whatever it was before starting the check. so if 'connected' stays 'connected'→ when going 🏠, the UI cleanup hadn't been triggered by completion of network set-up, but something about the check finalized the connection object...
thebigbadme.bsky.social
So what happened was: UI displays popover (yea I said dialogue before, but there's no controls to interact with..) which goes away as part of cleanup event. Meantime, the network is establishing a connection, then in the command menu, you can see device is connected, and as such can run a check...
thebigbadme.bsky.social
Why is this important? This looks like a UI rendering glitch. But it's fairly repeatable.

When these things connect to networks, they do a series of things in the background, but then there's like finalization stuff that seems to fire off when the UI us performing like... a cleanup step?...
thebigbadme.bsky.social
performing a connection check to the now connected network before the set-up code completes, and backing out (🏠) I got:
a very poorly cropped photo of a display where 2 lines of text are suspiciously overlapped while a dialogue is poped over *still* searching for a network it was already connected to...
thebigbadme.bsky.social
Then, the other day, my device was searching for a network, and i interrupted it with a command code on the standard remote control, {do things}, exited the command screen returning to the searching for network dialogue, then entered another command code which offered similar network functionality..

Side note, but I'm going to have to set up a non-virtual independent Veilid server to prod at the only pinch I can think to look. I can't keep playing with virtual machines. Hacker life is full of disappointments ^^
thebigbadme.bsky.social
Problem was I don't want to have to not only build an app, but set up server shit to stream data in... and that's all to see if I can influence it in a controlled manner, and I already rejected using DLNA vector for not wanting to set up server at this stage.

but it seems like video playback having some weird pointer glitch like an offset ? hard to say without trying to find it in the decompiled code, but it feels like a misaligned playback, which I used to do on purpose for art.
thebigbadme.bsky.social
The final entry for the closed captions playback repeats like 3 to 5 times at the final cue. Maybe we just started noticing it more after turning off autoplay, but the ad break between programs was the one that would definitely bug out the most. Not really the most clear source to sink,
thebigbadme.bsky.social
Which is possibly less controlled, unless I want to beta my own private "service" against a hypothetical dev channel to control a series.of streamed videos/states.

Once we corrected (for other reasons) the transitions, we began to see the weird behavior at the end of playback for a program:
thebigbadme.bsky.social
This isn't to say this bug is even useful. Noticed we could do a buggy video playback transition, occasionally, with streaming videos (with interspersed ads). It seemed more common with additional autoplayed videos in a sequence, and turning off autoplay keeps it under control in that manifestation

would display colored lines, that had some correspondence to the correct image color palette, but was otherwise random. I poked, but found no leverage. She could do it like... constantly, so no doubt a better hacker than I could grab a seam there.

Alright, I think I have a way to press on the media player bug... the one about the pairs of cross-sync'd pairs of doubly-linked lists? I've been chasing this bug since kiddo found it on fathers day 2024, she'd cycle thru a bunch of Futurama from external media, rapidly, and eventually the video...

I wonder if new Moldovan government would allow Ukraine to help clear out the "1,000 to 1,500 troops stationed in the area" ?
thebigbadme.bsky.social
I don't know how bank robberies fit into all of this, but looking at historical examples, at some point that's going to start happening as a means to fund the fight back against a force that can draw regular taxes. Hopefully tellers and patrons are supportive of the struggle.
thebigbadme.bsky.social
Crowds growing larger cyclically, in response to heavy-handed repression tactics against largely peaceful protestors.

At a certain point, the crowd becomes in charge, and that's when to let the avant garde do the thing in place instead of the fringes, giving folks who can't a chance to flee.
gravitysra1nbow.bsky.social
If you want something positive, I'd say that the current DHS strategy of using excessive force has been extremely counterproductive. Rather than actually detaining people, they're now spending significant time and resources dealing with hostile crowds wherever they go.
