All about games. We’re a couple (Dustin [he/him] & Choyeon [she/her]) gaming in Gwangju, South Korea 🇰🇷

Hey, we played a board game! (Which feels like a major accomplishment with a snoozing 2-month old in the next room)

Our first play of World Wonders by Zé Mendes. I like it!

Don't worry... Nothing can survive on those salt and vinegar Lay's. 🤤
Excellent! I'd be interested in stepping up to the plate too. Are you able to share it?
Glad it helped! If you're still looking for the DOS version, you might have some luck asking in forums/discord communities for the MiSTer FPGA, specifically the 0mhz collection.
You know the advice is good when it starts with "just..."
Yeah, it's basically imperium with a couple extra systems added.

I bounced off imperium, but I'm considering giving it a 2nd chance for the Trek theme... maybe there'll be a TTS mod we can try?

Be aware! In Pax Illuminaten there are 11 guys named Johann. Is this the highest concentrations of Johanns in one game? #boardgames
I like when card games don't limit Johann.
We traded our copy of EARTH for LONDON 2nd edition, and I’m feeling chuffed about it.

It’s a beautiful production and a much better fit for us.

Games with asymmetrical player boards sometimes have different difficulty ratings so you can give new players an easier setup. Planet Unknown is a good example.
That said, I'm still tempted to give the series a second chance with this iteration. Overlooking some rough edges in order to appreciate the whole feels appropriate for a Star Trek themed game.
"...there are still so many little steps that it sparks a mighty ache in my forehead ridges."

This is a helpful reminder of what turned me off about Imperium. I wanted to like it, but after 5 plays I found myself still focusing on procedures and terminology, rather than just playing.
Too many friends is a good problem to have!
Pulsar is really fun. It has produced so many memorable gaming sessions with friends over the years.

I think Sea of Thieves is the closest thing to an AAA version currently available.
We learned Bonfire by Feld. Kind of an oddball game, but I’m intrigued by its action selection mechanism. I’m eager to play again.

I’m interested in Captain’s Chair. Do you think it’s worth getting if you love Star Trek, but are lukewarm on Imperium?
All the cool kids are playing Civolution, but we’re just getting Bonfire off the “shelf of opportunity”.

Fellow puzzleheads know the feeling... 😌

It took 37.8 hours, but I finally completed #Snakebird.

First game of the year:

Underwater Cities by Vladimir Suchy 🏙️

Cho took this one pretty early on. She had a nice engine going, and was able to build up much faster than me. Good game.

I watched Anatomy of a Fall also…That was a tough one.

Monster looks interesting. Added to my list. 👀
Some of my favorites from this year were:

Furiosa (2024)
Neptune Frost (2021)
Gaia (2021)
The Seventh Seal (1957)

My number one pick goes to:
La Chimera (2023)

It’s slow and meandering, but I found it captivating.
