To answer my own question, there's a trust fund of 40 million quid set aside for the 10k Chagossians as part of the Mauritius deal, so a family of four arriving here should be entitled to, what, 16 grand? That might help!

Sorry to get all Corbyn but can this government not even say "whoops, yeah, that's a bit of a problem, we'll have a think" and then, like.... do so? Hillingdon should go Section 114 on this, if Tuckwell wants the government to clean this up. Let them come in and fix it.
