Thread. A lot of people need this right now, not just in games. I saw the jobs numbers this morning too.
I just saw this instagram post from the incredibly talented and breathtakingly hilarious Kate Welch, who was laid off around a year ago, and I wanted to share it here. It’s an important message, and you deserve to read it:

The 50 wealthiest families in the UK own more than 34 million people combined.

That level of inequality is totally unsustainable.

A wealth tax isn’t radical - it’s inevitable. And the Green Party will keep making the case.

My 5yo son’s thyroid is crushing his vocal cords. He struggles to speak, and soon, he may go silent. A $350 MRI is the only way to save his voice and future, but I am helpless. Please don’t let my son’s world go quiet. Donate or share,Every second counts

This resonates. TBH I'd especially love for those who haven't been laid off before to read it, and to really sit with the words "enterprise value."

Right now, literally right now, I’m at the end of my tether with unemployment. I feel miserable and worthless and that my hard work and experience have zero value

This thread really spoke to me, maybe check it out. I hope one day the last panel works for me. Right now, I’m teetering on the brink 🖤

always bears repeating that this is NOT a financial decision. jeff bezos is worth over 250 billion dollars. he can afford to lose many millions and never even notice it. this is, at its core, a political and personal decision by bezos to destroy the post

Having internships without having jobs for them to enter when they complete the internship should be illegal.

Staffing your gutted dev teams with interns will not work out dudes.

Pretty much any work that relies on creative skill is taking a bad hit; too many people look at it and think, “that’s not hard, *I* can do that” - so (a) they don’t value it, and (b) they can’t tell the difference between good and bad quality. As a result, they’re happy to settle for “cheap.”
So many industries and career paths are going this way
