Now there should also be an urgent review and inquiry into the contract awarded to Palantir under the steer of Mandleson when he clearly had a conflict of interest. The latter being on top of the security risks of Palantir being meshed in our defence tech and NHS.

Morgan McSweeney has been a detriment to the UK and a crucial participant in why it’s in the dire political straits it is today. Even his resignation is a failure - it comes so many years too late to protect us from the consequences of his selfish, self-important, anti-democratic meddling.

I’m not arguing with no account defending AI. My grandmother lives in an area being environmentally compromised currently by an ai data center. I remember the color of the lake before they built it and the sludge I see in it when I go to see her. Shut the fuck up about “the benefits of AI” forever.

- Blacksky is a semi-proprietary ethnocentric social network just “popping up”
- Blacksky is masquerading as fully open source

would you all like me to still speak at #AtmosphereConf this year?

I don’t have to.

Disappointing though not unsurprising.

Some people in the ATProto dev community need to take a hard look at how they voice their concerns and learn the difference between personal attacks and constructive criticism.

Be better for everyone's sake here.

Every time I’m forced to read about the atproto community on this platform it’s because they’re being incredibly toxic in one way or another, & like… maybe if you spent less time bullying people & more time building stuff, you might get the admiration you’re after?
Being mean is not a personality 🤷

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.
Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

Today, here’s a thread of orgs specifically for and by Black women.

I’m always grateful to the script editor who once pulled me aside to give me a similar warning about a big shot in the tv space that I was excited to meet.
I’m so naturally inclined to be trusting & friendly - seeing my male peers get to follow that instinct while I often have to crush it is tough.
I studied at a top uni. This famous professor who normally gave no lectures had a small informal seminar, I was told it would be a great opportunity but then a grad student pulled me aside to warn me that The Professor liked pretty young girls, to be carful. I never went.
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

it feels weirdly important to note that many defensive takes do not analyze stories about how workers from Kenya to Columbia have been forced into a digital underclass:

It’s morbidly fascinating to see still-living celebrities get the “wonky-elvis-painted-onto-a-fairground-waltzer” treatment at hyperspeed via generative AI. Like… Robert Downey Jr, is that… you in this online pop-up ad? Kind of? I can see you in there!
