About the Artwork and Dufy's Style
Theme: "Les Astres" is part of Dufy's later work, which often focused on themes like modern life and the beauty of the world.

Fauvism and Beyond: Dufy's style developed under the influence of Fauvism and Henri Matisse, characterized by its bold colors and strong outlines.

Color and Light: He believed that color captured the light that animated a subject and developed his theories of "couleur-lumière" to explore the interaction of light and color in his paintings.

Artistic Evolution: By the 1950s, as rheumatoid arthritis limited his physical abilities, Dufy adapted by tying brushes to his wrist and focusing on themes such as the orchestra and the beauty of interiors.

Legacy: Dufy gained international recognition, including the Grand Prize for Painting at the 1952 Venice Biennale, cementing his status as a celebrated artist.

A weathered stone archway from the ruins of Tintagel Castle in Cornwall, England, frames a view of the deep blue sea and a winding cobblestone path under a bright blue sky.

According to Arthurian legend, Tintagel Castle, perched dramatically on Cornwall’s rugged coast, is the birthplace of King Arthur. The story goes that Uther Pendragon, King of Britain, fell deeply in love with Igraine, the wife of Duke Gorlois of Cornwall. With the help of the wizard Merlin, Uther was magically transformed to resemble Igraine’s husband and gained entry to Tintagel Castle. That night, Arthur was conceived, marking the beginning of one of Britain’s greatest legends.

Centuries of myth and storytelling have woven Tintagel into the heart of Arthurian lore - a place where magic, destiny, and the sea itself seem intertwined. The ruins seen today, overlooking the vast Atlantic, evoke the sense that this is where myth touches the edge of history.
