It’s absolutely fascinating how a paper with an acclaimed history of tv reviewers, and a dedicated media editor (*snort*) can be so fucking incompetent at covering either.
OMG. The Guardian have confused Kenneth Clark, presenter of the 1969 series 'Civilisation' with Tory ex-MP & former Chancellor Kenneth Clarke in their review of the new BBC series 'Civilisations:Rise & Fall'

Rogue One is his pick as best of the new SW films - dude knows his stuff 👍🏻
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

Train Dreams: An elegiac portrait of a man caught (stuck?) in the maelstrom of an ever-changing world and industry even as his life struggles to move on through tragedies, shaped by connections with people who pass through his life fleetingly or with meaning. Just beautiful. One of the year’s best.

As somebody who is not especially in love with the “Wicked” movies, it is… bizarre in the year 2025 to hear a prominent movie podcaster describe “what it is doing to The Wizard of Oz” as “abominable.”

This is just standard revisionist storytelling. It’s pretty straightforward.

Good Boy has been added to Shudder today and it’s an unsettling, deeply melancholy little tale (tail?) about mortality with one of my favourite screen performances from a dog.

“Don’t play with the fear of failure, try to play with the anticipation of success.”

I’ve had my issues with Clarke and the way he has sometimes set up Scotland in games they should win at a canter but fair fucks to the big man. Humble enough to refuse credit for World Cup qualification 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

When Jamal Khashoggi was killed , all the TV networks were chasing me down to have me on to talk about Trump, Mohammed Bin Salman, Saudi Arabia and the murder.

Now that MBS is back in town and being wined and dined by Trump, Musk, Bezos and other tech billionaires?

I have not had one TV invite.

Khashoggi’s final piece before his murder.
I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

The goal felt around the nation.

If you could bottle this joy the world would be a better place.

Two days later and I still smile at every video of the celebrations.

There’s so much about the live action Moana trailer that just feels off and Jamaal absolutely nails the biggest issue - it’s lazy and Disney is giving up on interesting storytelling/filmmaking

I’ve seen McLean’s goal from every possible angle & every corner of Hampden. The joy, the elation, the emotion - ngl, I’ve had tears in my eyes quite a bit since last night. Those players have carried a heavy burden their entire careers in fighting to get us to a World Cup. And they’ve done it 🙌🏻

Robbo talking about how Diogo Jota was in his thoughts all day yesterday reminds you of the human side to these guys. Yes, they may earn millions for doing something they love, but they grieve like the rest of us. It was a monumental achievement last night & Jota will have been smiling for his pal 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
