Last time I got up close to this plant was in the #poisongarden @alnwickgarden, under lock & key?? But it’s growing close to where children play at a garden open to public in #Somerset? The #castoroilplant hides a deadly secret. Its seeds contain #ricin. Look don’t touch. #deadly #poison

Found a QUEEN red-tailed #bumblebee yeoorganicgarden yesterday. It’s very late in the season & another reminder that late forage is so very important for our late active #pollinator pals. #Caterpillars don’t usually kill our plants. They are natural food for wild birds especially chicks & other important creatures like #pollinators. Found this little beauty on lambs ears. Almost perfectly camouflaged! I think it is a red admiral #chrysalis? Don’t spray ‘bugs’ they are baby food!

I don't normally bother with Honey #Bees, as they're the 🐄 of the bee world, but this one'd been caught in the 🌧️ and was very bedraggled. Rain aside, it was a nice morning at @jekkasherbfarm.bsky.social where @thegreenjeanie.bsky.social gave a great talk. #ukwildlife #invertebrates #solitarybees

The bees face is mainly black and the hairs that normally are obvious on its head are wetted down by the rain drops resting that have drenched it. One wing is completely adhered to its body by the weight of the water. After taking the photo I moved the bee, and flower, into one of the poly tunnels, where it was warmer, drier (but open sided so it could get out), and there were plenty of appropriate herb flowers.

If you thought #stingingnettles were #weeds think again. They are baby food for many species of #butterflies and #moths. Can anyone advise what this little green #caterpillar will become? I’ve tried to research but no luck so far. Thank you! Feeding on a sunny patch of #nettles.

Found this amazing oil beetle in the garden today. I’m not sure of the species but I can see a groove in the thorax? So it is Meloe rugosus? Or Meloe violaceus?? Pretty sure it’s a female! Exciting! @liamolds.bsky.social
