Knee deep in the hoopla. Important things in my life: Jesus, family, friends, music and comics. In that order, though not always apparent.
Recent history of SCOTUS interfering with a president’s signature policy.

Also in here: DHS responded to the faith-led protest yesterday, calling participants “violent rioters” and “imbecilic morons” who need to “get a job.”

Asked about the statement, one UMC pastor who participated in the protest told me: "This is our job." religionnews.com/2025/11/15/a...

There’s no morrally rationale explanation for this.
You are understanding it correctly! Through no fault of their own, despite being approved for SIJS, they may still be deported because Congress decided to link SIJS to visa availability, visas are so backlogged that that means a multi-year wait, and SIJS itself doesn't protect from deportation.
If I'm understanding this correctly, children who qualified for the special status, who have spent formative years here, and through no fault of their own experiencing administrative delays, can be deported while they wait for a green card?

The cruelty is immense.

A lot of focus on the $500M, but I have to admit that I’m hung up on parents having wine at 11pm.
Eric Trump: "You can send $500 million worth of bitcoin on a Sunday night at 11pm while having a glass of wine with your wife for virtually zero fees."

186,000 is not even a single percentage point (.44%) of all SNAP beneficiaries (42 million).

They throw these numbers around without any context to make it seem like these are huge issues. They are not.
Brooke Rollins: "SNAP is a broken program. SNAP is full of corruption. We found 186,000 dead people."

Great leaders won't assign blame to others. Good leaders won't point blame downward. Bad leaders will point in any direction they think will work.
Kevin Roberts, the president of the Heritage Foundation, faced blowback after defending Tucker Carlson's interview with a white nationalist. He later apologized and said he erred out of ignorance, because he did not keep up with the news and had simply read an aide’s script.

I know that there’s some hope for justice today, but do not lose sight of the fact that the President will do absolutely anything to preserve power and escape accountability.

There are a lot of voices out there. One I’m glad to have discovered over the past year is Wolfers.
"I have two roles that really matter to me in the world. One, I'm an economist and two, I'm a dad... And you can think some of the world's great problems are from the failings of some fathers and some of the world's great problems are from the failings of some econ 101 teachers."

This is true for all food banks. Their relationships allow your dollars to do significantly more.
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

The new conditions for compromise are more insulting than just keeping the House adjourned.
Jeffries: Democrats are going to offer an amendment to get that self dealing sick provision out… The notion that Republicans would give themselves the ability to rip millions of taxpayer dollars away so they can line their pockets, because these people were insurrectionist sympathizers is insanity.

So instead of using the aggregated power of our taxes to influence insurance costs, the plan is to give us back a fraction of paid taxes so that we can attempt to individually negotiate costs with what is arguably the most powerful industry in our economy.
Trump: "We want a healthcare system where we pay the money to the people instead of the insurance companies. We're gonna be working on that very hard over the next short period of time. Where the people get the money. We're talking about trillions and trillions of dollars."

Last week, voters rejected furthering this administration’s agenda in key political races, the Supreme Court appeared to cast serious doubt on the legality of tariff policy, and Trump blatantly displayed he does not wish to fund SNAP.

Senate Dems begin this week by acting like none of it happened.

After the longest govt. shutdown in history, the American people deserve to hear directly from Schumer about what his proposed compromise actually accomplishes.

A procedural vote on the ACA will not register as anything but folly outside of the beltway.

Serious question: What are the mechanisms in place for democratic accountability when Congressional leadership is actively engaged in dereliction of duty?
Trump says the SNAP money that he’s been ordered by a court to release won’t be released until the government shutdown ends.

What if we just point out to the President that Republicans apparently don’t bother to watch him when he’s on TV?

If health care reform is being treated like a top secret mission to be launched against the American people, something is very wrong.

Or they don’t have a plan.

But probably 25% the first thing, 75% the other.
Mike Johnson talks about the Republican "healthcare plan" like it's highly classified information: "We're not gonna be on a conference call explaining all our plans and strategies for healthcare reform, because they're leaked in real time."

Of note: The previous Trump administration funded SNAP during the 2019 shutdown.
NEW: The Trump administration told a judge it will comply with an order to fund US food aid benefits for November during the government shutdown, but only at 50% of the amount eligible households would normally receive, and with a warning it could take weeks or months to implement buff.ly/nNJ5LJA
