My video is up! Even if you don't watch it to retain it right away, watching it in the background or just like having it play or whatever in the first couple hours really helps with the algorithm (and obviously comments and likes are loved and appreciated)

This thumbnail for a YouTube video is in red and pink scale. On the left is the silhouette of a woman wearing red from the shoulders to the mid thigh. Her arm is out and holding a hat. On the right is a woman in a strapless A-line full skirted wedding gown covered in white ruffles. She has her hand gently resting on a wooden high-backed chair. The text reads dressed to be oppressed: how to fashion yourself a dystopia.

Underneath it in smaller text it says clothing is voice, fashion is language, stylist dialect. Be fancy, be adventurous. And don't let the bastards keep you down. On either side of that text, on the right is a QR code to leave you to the video and on the left is the logo of the YouTube creator Samantha Rei.

Today I saw a dragonfly and a leaf bug and I feel like there's something that that indicates

Have you had a chance to watch my new video?

What happens when fiction starts looking a little too familiar? In this video, I break down how The #handmaidstale & The #hungergames used fashion to warn us and how those warnings feel uncomfortably relevant right now.

Five coloured sketches of the progression of Stede's outfits through the series.
First sketch: Stede walking around with the potted fern and a quill pen, wearing a light teal vest and breeches over a white shirt and stockings.
Second sketch: Stede kneeling in shock in front of the weapon that Chauncy used, his clothes from the privateer academy rumpled and dirty.
Third sketch: Stede in his celebrity pirate era, with a dark teal shirt that shows off his chest, brown leather pants and boots and a sword belt. He's winking off to his right, holding onto a rope with his left hand and his right is resting on the hilt of his sword.
Fourth sketch: Stede is back in his soft fabrics, in blue cotton pants, leather boots and a linen shirt that's wide open and sliding off his shoulders, showing bites and kisses left by Ed. In his hands he's holding onto the pink robe with a soft smile on his face.
Fifth sketch: Stede finds a middle ground in his wardrobe, mixing the softness of fine fabrics with the practicality of leather. He kept the loose shirt wide open over his chest, with shiny pearl and gold necklaces framing his neckline. He's kneeling with one leg on a stool, leather pants soft and stretching in his pose, and buttery gold leather boots adding a pop of colour to his outfit. His upper body is draped over the counter as he smiles coily at his companion (who's not in frame but is definitely Ed)

There is a FASCINATING new video from @thesamantharei.bsky.social about how media like Hunger Games and Handmaid's Tale use clothing to illustrate creeping fascism. (And, spoiler, it's not just fictional fascists who use clothing to control people.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwJV...

The way YouTube works the more views it gets in the first hour the better, so while I don't expect anyone to just take an hour out of their life to watch this right away at 3:15, it would mean the world to me if you would throw it on in the background even if you put it at double speed. 🙇🏾

All right pals, I have a new video coming out today (10.9) at 3:15. Literally months in the making.

We thought these were costumes. Turns out, they were warnings.

The full video drops tomorrow after months of research, reflection, and a little dread.

If you're subscribed to my Patreon you can see it now 👍🏾

Okay, which one you jerks cursed me? I found a nail in my tire before leaving the grocery store and during dinner just now I cracked a tooth while eating a tortilla chip.

I've never seen that one! We usually do cherry, regular or lemon.

I just reached a new level of being a mom. My toddler apparently put one of his little wooden carrots in the back of my shirt last night and I didn't realize it until now after sleeping on it for five and a half hours. Princess and the Pea I am not.

I'm so jealous! That was actually the last concert I went to before COVID lockdown in 2020. Ours was the last stop before they canceled the tour and it was phenomenal. I've seen them a billion times, but that time was just kind of a weird fun thing before the world was quiet for a while.

Have fun!!

You know what, with the exception of the quiet little hang I had at my awesome friend's house, my birthday weekend kinda sucked ass. I know it's been a week, but I'm still a little salty about it. I'm really grateful for the friends I got to spend time with though and at least there's that.
