yes!! i had a similar teacher who even threw away some of my final products cause she was hard up on either realism or SUPER abstract and she HATED my comic look stuff >.<

agreed 10000% i wish a lot of the creative community practiced what they preach.

"art isn't real life" meanwhile they're commenting on anatomy saying "that's wrong". technically correct? sure, but why do they gotta be "right" if the artist intended for the posted outcome???
thevioletstarling.com
and if you feel the need to correct an artist, and get mad when they say "that's my style..."

know that what they want to say is "I intended it to look like that, so your opinion is not needed or wanted."

and be ok with that <3 Art doesn't need to be perfect.

art =/= real life always
thevioletstarling.com
me realizing that when I would defend my art with "that's my style..." was because what i SHOULD have said was "I wanted to draw it like that."

which is valid.

yes, folks can have anatomy issues and shit in art, but it's art. it can be drawn "wrong" and still be right if the artist intended it <3

I don't know who needs to hear this but:

PLEASE REMEMBER CLIP STUDIO HAS A HAND SCANNER THAT WILL REPLICATE A HAND 3D MODEL TO YOUR HAND'S POSITION.

DON'T SUFFER IN SILENCE TRYING TO DRAW THAT HAND POSE

digital illustration of two anthro animal characters dressed in halloween costumes. one is a black and white dog/cat hybrid with a zombie costume. the other is a raccoon/cat hybrid with a helldivers costume. both are carrying candy buckets and strolling down a sidewalk at night. digital illustration of an anthro orange cat in a costume inspired by doom guy's armor from doom: the dark ages. the character is holding a glowing red sword inspired by the crucible from doom eternal and striking a battle-ready pose, standing on a pile of rocky rubble. the background is engulfed in flames. digital illustration of an emerald green-scaled dragonborn with floating horns and spines, wearing a shimmery purple robe and black harem pants, sitting on a velvet stool and smoking an herbal pipe. digital illustration of an espeon with calico-like green spots and a red collar with a silver bell.

> way regardless of whether it could work in real life because

IT. IS. ART.

> like it worked for THEM.

but in art, style is a thing. people simplify shapes all the time. we know hands don't have 3 fingers, but some artists choose it because:
a. they like it
b. easier to animate for them
c. whatever else reason they have because it's art and you can draw things any which >

double down on this when you see art tutorials.

"do THIS, NOT this!!!!"

does NOT mean that one is right and one is wrong.

what it means is, if you're doing x and it doesn't look right and you're looking for ways to work through it, then this person is offering up a solution that COULD work>
thevioletstarling.com
ESPECIALLY if that advice doesn't fit your specific needs.

but i'll do you one better: even if it doesn't fit, try tweaking it so it DOES work for you. try not to be so literal about it and think if you don't do it exactly, you'll fail or it won't work.

internet im gonna share with you something that's gonna change your online life for the better:
when you see advice, even if it looks like it's for everyone, assume that person is talking to themselves. assume that advice is for them to remember but they're sharing it in the event it hits for others

Sage, and no one else, owes you to the point of covering every single base and "reaching out" to make it comfy for you. you have to figure out what that means for yourself and not blaming random social media users for not knowing exactly what it is you need

> normally and not holding your breath. for others it's doing the method I was taught, and for some it's getting a paper bag so they don't hyperventilate but it's on THEM to figure out which one they need and then go by that. it is NOT on others to do the work for us for every single individual need

> different ways to breathe, and the one i was taught helped reset my vagus nerve. that meant helping my anxiety.

so was the advice of those saying "just breathe" wrong? No, I just needed to figure out, for myself, what that meant.

cause to some it's literally taking a step back and breathing>

> it to work FOR you and what you need

IE: people always tells anxious folks to breathe. Just breathe. and I know I've always felt that was condescending.

but when I started going to therapy and found someone to explain to me WHY, it worked, it just wasn't spelled out for me before
