Ehwoo, eh?

Blissfully retired Software Janitor/Archeologist

I drink coffee.
I know things.
I still tell machines stories.
I keep wishing I could wake up in a world where everyone finally had had enough of this BS, rounded all these crooks and shysters, put them all on a guarded island somewhere for life and we moved on to live in peace in a world that's only normal level insane.

It's hard to to relate to modern youth when you're 438 years old.

Side note: Did you know that we considered Mozart to be the 1780s equivalent of ABBA?

Just remember gang... saving money on something you weren't planning on getting and didn't really need isn't actually saving money, it's still spending money.

I have to be honest here: Carney's MOU with the genuinely deranged Alberta Premier Danielle Smith loses a lot of points with a lot of people.

Doing it with no involvement by the BC gov or the BC First Nations has a definite "Trump/Russia deal about Ukraine" feel to it, which is not a good look.
November 28, 2025 at 3:57 AM
Any deal between Russia and Ukraine that requires Ukraine to cede territories occupies by Russia is a win for Russia and bullies everywhere.

Russia started this, is getting beaten on every front and if they gain land for it, it says "Try again - maybe more land for Russia?"

If you want a happier life, whenever you see "might" or "could" in an article that seems unreasonably negative OR positive, either ignore it entirely, or at least ask these two questions:

1. How likely is it that it will ACTUALLY happen?
2. What are the REAL consequences if it happens?

Thought for the day:

Western capitalism is based on economy of scale. The more you make, the cheaper each one is. So the "ultraprocessed" food thing plays nicely into preferring handmade and local over processed and industrial.

It sells well because at some level, we assume handmade is better...

The Paradox of Two Dimensions

Listening to left pundits is beyond frustrating because of systemic misunderstandings and outright errors they champion, often in the smarmiest of tones...

So then I listen to the right and it's like that but 10x worse.

I need a perpendicular option to the L/R line.

First to be clear: yes, foreign children legally adopted by Canadian citizens should be considered Canadian citizens, or at the very least have a short path to it.

However "lost citizens" is an entirely different issue and conflating them is unfair to both.

Dear @democrats.org

Idea.

How about canvassing people from all walks of life and political positions, ask them what's really important in their lives.

Then get some smart people like @rbreich.bsky.social or @sanders.senate.gov to look at it and find a set of compatible goals...

Dear @microsoft.com

Maybe instead of badgering, forcing or trying to bribe us into using your products...

Make products WE want, rather than products you think we want or want us to want - and make them good by OUR standards, not yours.

Then we'll just buy them.

Dear @djiglobal.bsky.social

Make a USB-C O4 digital transceiver for cell phones that uses the Fly app, rather than making us use a controller. Or just make it possible to plug the existing one into a phone.

Then the Neo/Flip line will be truly portable AND powerful.

One of the most frustrating things about drone enthusiasts on YouTube (and this isn't a criticism, more just frustration on my part), that they're all about taking picture of themselves running or climbing or doing some kind of sport.

So that's the focus of all the feature analysis.

Ok.. First Microsoft and now Google.

Basic rule of UI design: A change that adds more clicks to do something is a sign you're designing it wrong.

If something used to take one click and now it takes three - you failed.

Sub-rule: Popups are evil. Avoid if possible.
