"I can't stand the change of seasons. It's gotten so cold, and my good cloak was torn apart by wolves. I also happened to be wearing it at the time..."

already. I'm surprised the king is still around, though. It must be years into the flood by now, but he's just a man. Perhaps we can avoid him, unless he's holding those broken pieces of Wisdom. I'm positive the two of us could fight him for it if we had to."

"It's fine I'm alright." Octavo shrugs. He wouldn't say he was stuck, so much as he kept willingly returning to the trap.

"I knew it wasn't going to be as easy as just swimming down there and grabbing the thing," he sighs. "We won't need to worry about Ganondorf. I have the Triforce of Power

The Deku tree replies in the current language, having regained his composure.

“Octavo, while I'm not the Deku Tree you knew as a Guardian Deity I get vague impressions of events. I am glad to see you. However, I am disappointed that your journey did not end sooner, and you are still stuck.”
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
Octavo's heart sinks just a little when he sees it's not the same tree. Did they inherit memories, he wonders. He doesn't notice at first that Link isn't with him.

"We've come to find the Triforce," he says. "To hopefully set things right for this cursed land."
azothsoul.bsky.social
Link follows the bard, it takes everything in him not to run like an excited child. He closed his eyes, curbing his childish enthusiasm before looking up at the large tree. It doesn't look anything like his Great Deku Tree, but the voice tells him all he needs to know.

"I'll be damned."

Would it be the same tree that he'd met when he'd first awoken? Octavo wades barefoot through the stream, around to the front of the huge trunk. Seeing the Great Deku tree always made him feel tiny, insignificant compared to the great bulwark of history. Something that had stood

long before he'd been carved and would stand long after he was gone. He wrings his hands, ears drooping. "So sorry to drop in like this..."

That meant Sprout is alive, even after all this time and all this weather.

“Great Deku Tree…?” The Hylian murmurs, voice low and quiet. Not Sprout, it doesn't matter that the boy watched the tiny leaf emerge from the soil. He is a Great Deku Tree now.
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
anyone speak it.

It's not in the tree... It 𝘪𝘴 the tree. The whole tree is moving. And Octavo only knows of one huge, talking, moving tree...
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
"Something large," Octavo murmurs. A mere squirrel or korok couldn't have caused that much motion. The whole canopy is swaying.

To his surprise, a voice calls out, deep and raspy. Octavo doesn't understand the words at first, the language nearly forgotten for how long it'd been since he'd heard
azothsoul.bsky.social
Link frowned at the thought, glancing to his webbed toes. He hadn't even thought in his desperation to reach Octavo.

“What do you think is up there?" Knowing his luck it's probably a Gohma.

trying to perform.

He quickly throws on his one dry shirt, a loose mustard-yellow tunic, and is beginning to pull on dry pants as well when the canopy rustles above them. It's too loud to be a gust of wind; it sounds like something is moving around up there.
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
"And who blessed you with that ability?" Octavo undoes the buttons on his shirt, peeling it from his body and hanging it beside his jacket. His gray skin is etched and pockmarked with small scars, especially around his shoulders and back. Damned monsters loved shooting him with arrows while he was

doesn't want to fall ill. That would set them back terribly. He can't have Link waiting around for him to get better.

"I wonder what part of Hyrule this is," he muses idly, digging in his instrument case for some dry clothes.
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
"This place feels... familiar," Octavo says. A light rain makes it through the opening up top, but they're shielded from the worst of the storm by the canopy. He peels his wet coat off, wringing it out and hanging it over a branch. Gods, he's soaked to the bone, he's going to have to change if he
azothsoul.bsky.social
But for now they should rest a while. Stepping further in he found some dry sticks and kindling. Not a lot, but enough to start a small fire.

Arranging everything, a small flame comes from his hand and lights the kindling.
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
Octavo follows with another teleport. These short jaunts were nothing, even though the rain was now making his fingers slick. He's all too grateful to finally duck into the small opening. Hoping for civilization might be a bit much, but perhaps they could at least make a fire and camp.
azothsoul.bsky.social
Looking over to the next gap, it had a small pool that fell into a waterfall before flowing out into the sea. Green wind swirls around the boy before he disappears and appears on the other side.

“There's an opening!" He reports, “Just past this little pool."
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
"...wait a moment." Octavo calls the Lute, playing a short tune, only a few notes. He vanishes in a puff of purple magic and reappears on the other side of the gap, next to Link. "There we go! I, ah... Normally I don't bother teleporting such small distances. I didn't think of it at first."
azothsoul.bsky.social
He could've teleported. He could have teleported BOTH OF THEM. Why was he doing this? He hates this feeling. As soon as he falls he swoops over to the other side, taking a breath shaking off the anxiety.

“Ready?”
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
Octavo wipes his wet hair out of his face, following Link up the rocky incline. He considers calling on Gohmaracas, but the side of the stump is too steep for her to climb, not to mention slick from the rain. The ocean froths below them, lashing against the rocks.

"...are you sure about this?"
azothsoul.bsky.social
He could swing across then swing the hookshot to the bard: better safe than sorry.
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
drops of rain falling once again. This stump had better be hollow, otherwise they were going to be blown right back into the sea...
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
Octavo picks himself up off the ground, hobbling over to where the instrument now lay inert. There's very little shore here, just a few grassy outcrops at the base of a huge tree stump.

"Can you see a way in?" he calls to Link as he puts the instrument away. The wind is beginning to blow harder,
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
The dragon veers in the direction of the island. They've spotted it none too soon; Octavo can feel Gleeokenspiel flagging, the magic giving it life beginning to run dry. It swoops low to the shore, dropping them both before landing clumsily, collapsing shortly after into a cloud of sparks and smoke.
azothsoul.bsky.social
The first island he sees has a few Deku buds and tree branches. It looks like a little paradise compared to what was below. And trees as far as he is concerned always mean good things.

“Over there!"

Link has no idea that a reunion awaits him.
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
Perhaps with some height, they'd be able to see the nearest island.
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
Octavo clings tightly to Link, shaking like a leaf. He knows he doesn't have the strength to climb back onto the dragon, so they'll have to dangle here until they reach land.

"What an auspicious start," he mutters. Once they've reeled in enough, Gleeokenspiel beats its wings, rising into the air.
azothsoul.bsky.social
So, he began bringing in the chain to move them closer to the Gleeok and away from the water.

talons and beats its wings, starting to lift them both from the swells.
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
Wonderful, so they were going to be fighting the gods and their storm the whole time they were here... Octavo coughs a few times. "Shoot it up into the air. It'll grab on."

Gleeokenspiel hovers over them, still struggling a bit in the wind. As the hookshot is fired, it seizes the chain in its

“The Sun Song, it'll last until they send the rain again. But you're right we do need to find land.” For a moment Link swears he saw a flash of green, but as soon as he blinks it's gone.

“Will the hookshot hurt Gleeokenspiel?” The Zora asked, looking up to the Gleeok.
thiefandlyre.bsky.social
Octavo rakes the strings, the sound deafening, a phantom beat echoing through the ears of all who are caught in its blast. The urge to dance is overwhelming, to move to the rhythm he's set.

"I know what you are, you cheap piece of costume jewelry," he spits. "This is 𝘮𝘺 territory. Now 𝘿𝘼𝙉𝘾𝙀."

"Let's have some fun. Who wants a race?"

He's polishing Morin's wooden hide. Must make sure his horse is nice and shiny for his victory.

winds have died down. "Is this some sort of spell?" Octavo asks, looking at the clouds roiling above them. "How long will it last? We need to find land."
