'Why aren't they in the streets' is answered almost every day in my small town by people in the streets! Rather than asking 'why aren't they in the streets' it's worth asking 'why isn't your media showing them in the streets' and 'who is served by downplaying resistane in its myriad forms.'
The idea that there are no protests in the US and no one is standing up to Trump is proving incredibly hard to kill over here in Germany. It’s become dogma, utterly detached from empirical reality.

I wonder if the people who keep talking like that understand they’re perpetuating regime propaganda.

I only found out about this yesterday and it is SO GOOD, one of the bands that got me into cool music (and typography!) when I was but a youth: www.npr.org/2025/06/25/g...
Living Colour: Tiny Desk Concert
Did we really squeeze the big sound of Living Colour behind the Tiny Desk? Yes, we did. And, yet, the band lost none of its intensity.

What was a good thing from your day? My hair is the same color as my coworker’s dog, so I gave him an emo hair wig with my ponytail.

No Other Choice was very bonkers and I enjoyed it. Another 2.5-hour movie that doesn’t feel like it, in a good way.

Someday I need to do a tour of fabrics that remind me of people, because I am looking at a flannel right now that reminds me of someone named Jessica (last name ??) who was in my class in 1st grade.

My sister keeps telling her dog “Monty, the carrots are dead” meaning all done/he can’t have any more, and for some reason the dramatic phrasing is absolutely hilarious to me.

Best passenger on the plane? The small child who, during our descent, yelled “E-I-E-I-O!” every so often.

Finally started watching Frankenstein—the first half, anyway—last night, and it’s as weird as I was hoping for.

Shout out to the mammogram tech who concluded my appointment with a stoked “And we got some GREAT images today!” That is a person who loves what they do.

Good morning! First time wearing this jacket this autumn and I had forgotten that I put my old Living Colour pin on it. #iaintnoglamourboy

Today my friends and I got together and made holiday wreaths. We didn’t even know how, we just *believed in ourselves* and watched 10 seconds of a YouTube video about making wreaths, like “yeah, we got this.”

You can make art.

The biggest step isn't getting good at art, it's being willing to make art that doesn't match the idea of "good art" in your head.

Making a lot of imperfect art is an essential step toward making perfect art; a counterproductive goal you shouldn't have anyway.

Just make art.

The actual secret to why I know stuff is that I ask a question any time I don’t understand literally anything. I don’t care how simple it is. Anybody who makes fun of you for asking a simple question likely doesn’t know the answer either

Once I was at Darwin’s across the street from Harvard, waiting for my sandwich. An older man came in, walked to the front. “I’m picking up my sandwich,” he said. “Name?” asked the barista. “Larry Summers,” he said. I rolled my eyes, probably audibly. No last names at the sandwich place, LARRY!

This afternoon, OUSD sent an email alert to parents confirming ICE activity in West Oakland.

We are re-sharing COYOTE's 'What We Can Do About ICE' guide to help our communities stay ready and empowered in alarming moments like this. Please share with your neighbors and friends.
What We Can Do About ICE
ICE is in the Bay Area. And yes, we can all do something about it.

I have an affinity for SNL—from a Making Art perspective, it’s impressive to *create something new* each week, even when it’s not funny. It’s at its best w/ a host who’s the right combo of acting chops, humility, and on board with weird silliness—this Saturday’s was 100% that! Nicely done.

I’m not even trying to read these emails and I feel like each one I come across is more inane than the last. Like what a bunch of boring, self-important buttheads.
