Appreciate the endorsement of this article from @jeppjournal.bsky.social. If you would be interested in a novel and long-missing approach of how adopted domestic policy influences the design of other policies, do take a look. Further work will also be presented at the COPPR conference, Bern, in Jan!

Since National took NZ Govt office with ACT Party and NZ First, my friends and I have all lost work. Prices have gone up. Env't protections have been removed. Politicians have attacked #PayEquity, safer roads, and trans rights. I don't trust that lot an iota. 🔬

National makes economic pitch after Trump tariffs setback

Ah! I get that but we received the #CafelatRobot a few days ago and with a decent grinder it is relatively easy to pull great shots from it right at once 👍

Imports continue to be a fairly big part of how Ireland meets its electricity demand. But looking at overall numbers for 2024, it's quite similar to 2023, but domestic generation mix became cleaner, leading to a 8.5% drop in average grid carbon intensity, which is certainly welcome news.
greencollective.io
Irish electricity also slightly cleaner in 2024 than 2023 (making 2024 the cleanest ever). Preliminary 2023 v 2024 stats:
Low-carbon sources/generation: 42.2% v 42.4%
Low-carbon sources/demand: 38%v 37.5%
(Low-carbon+imports from GB)/demand: 49.5% v 50.2%
Grid carbon intensity (gCO2/kWh): 280 v 256
UK electricity cleanest ever in 2024, with record 58% from low-carbon sources
UK has more than halved amount of electricity generated from fossil fuels but gas still had largest share at 28%

Horizon Europe's overall budget is 95.5 BILLION euros. The gov't has decided that NZ's access to the portion of those $ that relates to humanities & social sciences isn't worth pursuing.

Horizon investment in our researchers would cost the NZ taxpayer next to nothing for huge investment & reward

And funding opportunities for the social sciences and humanities have been cut from the Horizon Europe programme. 🤬
Changes to MBIE’s Horizon Europe Top-Up fund scheme

Tēnā koutou

MBIE is providing an update on the Horizon Europe Top-Up funding scheme.

Change to Top-Up fund eligibility for projects in Cluster 2

From 1 February 2025, projects in Cluster 2, Culture, Creativity & Inclusive Society, will no longer be eligible for funding through the MBIE Horizon Europe Top-Up funding scheme.

This change is being made to align the Top-Up fund settings with the Government’s priorities for Science, Innovation & Technology investments, and direction outlined in the Catalyst Fund investment Plan. Research organisations who have submitted a proposal for a Cluster 2 project which opened before 1 February 2025 and who registered for Top-Up funding with MBIE within 10 working days of the European Commission (EC) call for proposals closing will still be eligible for Horizon Europe Top-Up funding.

Ooh! I love those manual #espresso makers but have never tried the flair for myself. I am in two minds about #Flair and the #CafelatRobot. We need one for cabin life (without electricity and currently I am leaning towards the robot but perhaps you can change my mind? Love your beans too!
