Emerson, Lake, & Palmer - "Emerson, Lake, & Palmer"
1970

Stellar album. Even though I love a lot of the subsequent albums, I don't ever think they truly ever topped this. Almost definitely making my top 5.

Funkadelic - "Funkadelic"
1970

From the very first song, on this first album, you can tell this is something special. Another one I don't see not making my top 5. Another one that is so amazing and so influential.

My favorite subject was always science, specifically the experiments. I think one of the most significant and useful aspects of experimentation is the joy of failure. Being able to see failure as a learning process and seeing it as a positive outcome because you learned something is invaluable.

#5debutalbums1014 #albumoftheday Hozier - Hozier (2014) Moody, cavernous new-soul from Ireland's finest voice. The gospel feel pervades the album with optimism and hope. #Testify 🙏 Best track - Take Me To Church #NowPlaying #MusicSky

#5debutalbums1014 London Grammar - If You Wait (2013) Delicate and airy ballads. The focal point, Hannah Reid's voice, hovers mid way between the diffident vocal style of the XX and the overwrought histrionics of Florence Welch. Solid album. #MusicSky

#NowPlaying Traffic - When The Eagle Flies (1974) First listen. Soulful jam based jazz rock with Dream Gerrard an early standout, just as well at over 11 mins long. Apparently, they broke up after promoting this album. I can't believe its taken over half a century to discover Traffic. #MusicSky

#NowPlaying Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood - The Hits Of Nancy & Lee (1968) 1st listen. A quintessential 60's artefact. You can imagine Austin Powers chatting up a go-go dancer with this as the soundtrack. There is an alchemy between Nancy & Lee that brings to life these vivid time capsules #MusicSky

#5debutalbums1014 @annacalvi.bsky.social - Anna Calvi (2011) A virtuoso guitarist and near-operatic singer that writes epic songs where if you squint Nina Simone is singing in a spaghetti western. Music that wouldn't be out of place in Peaky Blinders or one of Tarantino's bloodier movies. Tasty.

#5debutalbums1014 Charles Bradley - No Time For Dreaming (2011) Featuring The Menahan Street Band, this could have been reased in 1971. Authentic valve amps, gravel voiced vocals, cool brass splashes - this is a from-the-streets soul album. Excellent. #MusicSky
