A real solo album, Wood plays all the instruments with the exception of a bit of harmonium, he did all the vocals, produced it himself & also drew the cover. Tunes are a mish mash of styles, but if anybody can make that sound okay then Roy can. Won't make my 5 but a good listen.

Another contender for me John Prine self titled debut 1971. The whole album is pretty great, if I had to pick Pretty Good is the stand out for me. #5debutalbums7074

Jackson Browne self titled. Best part of the Album is Jesse Ed Davis barely getting his guitar tuned and then banging out the guitar solo for Doctor my Eyes on the first take. And absolute legend. #5debutalbums7074

It is amazing how many pillars of 70’s rock started in the ‘60s.

I think this epic by ELP will be my top Pick for #5debutalbums7074

Scorpions - Lonesome Crow (1972)

Scorpions’ first album , produced by Conrad “Conny” Plank (as was the previously mentioned Kraftwerk 1,) includes more extended track lengths with studio experimentation than their later albums , in addition to a dark and riff-heavy sound.

#5debutalbums7074 The Vulcans - Startrek (1972) Very early space age ska/reggae. In truth a shameless Trojan moog cash in but it's a mighty fine record. This copy sounds like it's been roughed up with a cheese grater but still sounds so bassy. Tangerine Dream meet Sly & Robbie. #NowPlaying #MusicSky

#5debutalbums7074 #albumoftheday 10CC - 10CC (1973) Harking back to the doo-wop and rock & roll of the 50's, its easy to dismiss this as a pastiche of a bygone era. 10CC don't have the reverence afforded to their peers but this LP is full of clever, knowing references and satire. Best track - Donna

#5debutalbums7074 England's Glory - S/T (1973) Early release from Peter Perrett. Some songs were later repurposed for The Only Ones half a decade later. Strong Lou Reed/VU feel. You can hear the seeds of a career in here, but it's not quite coalesced. First Time I Saw You is a lost classic though.

Closing Time—Tom Waits

Not many 23 year olds release debut albums with this quality of songwriting. The tragicomic I Hope that I don't Fall in Love…, the triumphant Ol' 55, the longing of Grapefruit Moon, the heartbreak of Martha: all life is here.

A Rastafarian album of powerful spiritual music. If you like 70's Jamaican music & have never heard this, it's well worth checking out

Was a wonderful discovery for me back in the days of twitter. This CD copy comes with a second disc of Lloyd Charmers dubs

Really nice debut from Candi Staton, although not all the songs fully grab me However Candi certainly knows how to deliver a song, what a voice!
