Finished Shifter & Shadow (after re-reading the previous 5 in the series). A+ recommended!

@sharonshinnauthor.bsky.social, I'm so glad you decided to tell Kirra and Donnal's story at Dorrin Isle. I enjoyed the re-reading and the new book very much! You have such a beautiful writing voice.

Overnighted at Hog Canyon Lake, which sadly had no lake access for vehicles, but it was nice and quiet.

30 minutes east of Spokane. The wildfire smoke west of here was awful, but I’m finally out of that and next to this.

Clerodendrum trichotomum (Harlequin glorybower) is such a cool plant. The leaves smell like peanut butter when bruised, the flowers smell like jasmine, and the pollen is purple.

I got to visit a friend's foster kittens today. 3 were playful but shy. This one, though, was super floppy and friendly (but even more murdery than the others when the feather toy was out). Just look at those tiny toe beans!

OMG, *so* many of my favorite authors are here in Seattle for Worldcon! I'm a crowds=nope person, but I'm fangirling here at home just knowing they're all nearby. I hope you all have a lovely visit: @annaleen.bsky.social , @brandonsanderson.com , @mathcat.bsky.social ,

I wish I'd known this when I was caught in a rip current off Bocas Del Toro 20 years ago. I didn't die, but it was a near thing and unbelievably terrifying to be unable to get closer to land no matter how hard I swam.
“What if I'm caught in a rip current?”
Stay calm and relax. Float to conserve energy. Rip currents don't pull you under. Don't swim against the current. You can escape by swimming out of the current in a direction following the shoreline then at an angle toward the beach. weather.gov/safety/ripcu...

There are a few series that I reread every 3-5 years. It's time for Elizabeth Moon's 'Heris Serrano' now, and they are just so good. 💕

I just finished @sarahreesbrennan.bsky.social's 'Long Live Evil', and it was absolutely brilliant. The publisher blurb calls it a send up of fantasy/romantasy, but to me it reads more as a scathing (and hilarious and heart-wrenching) commentary on society & loneliness.
