Zena Scott-Archer died #onthisday in 2011, aged 90. Her obituary described her as ‘widow of the late David Archer’, with no mention of her own career as the world’s leading female sleuth. Pic: Zena's family collection. #privatedetectives #femalesleuths #womenshistory #privateinquiries #truecrime

'Labyrinth is just one of several of my novels that have been scraped by Meta’s large language model. This has been done without my consent, without remuneration, without even notification. This is theft.'

Great piece by @katemossewriter.bsky.social in the FT on AI. www.ft.com/content/f26b...
AI’s assault on our intellectual property must be stopped
Writers should not have to shoulder the burden of ‘opting out’ from companies stealing their work

US & Canadian #women — have you heard of the book
'In Control: Dangerous Relationships and How They End in Murder'? It reveals how coercive control can lead to #murder. It provides a strategy for intervention that will save women's lives.

My brothel-keeping ancestor (see previous post) plied his nefarious trade on the beat of PC Jerome Caminada, who was a member of the Italian community with the other side of my family. He became one of Manchester's finest detectives and was a Victorian super sleuth. My first book was his biography.

Remember the Milgram experiment from the 60’s. Those who refused to press the electrocution button when distress was clear were found to have had more of an inner sense of self. They knew who they were.

For me. When you tap into self it helps you to do what’s right even when it’s hard. It’s the same for bystanders. A sense of moral responsibility is found to be the biggest motivator when a person witnesses harm.

I referenced the church at the start. Cover ups, and a lack of action from leaders is clear. The apathy this creates within the organisation is clear. The loss of trust in the setting is also clear.

In recent years there has been story after story where leaders have failed. The post office, the NHS, Policing, Fire and rescue, Covid and the BBC all share the apparent inability of leaders to do what’s right.

We are both light and dark. We have to tap into self to examine motive, authenticity and integrity. It’s a tough gig to look at our ‘defects’. However, we’re better for doing so…all of us.
For me this is so true about good leaders. When leaders tap into self I feel they are better leaders. Your character helps drives your decisions and relationships. It supports you even in those difficult decisions
