I have no opinion on the controversy currently sweeping the genre.

One of the best fantasies I’ve read in a decade. Loved the whole trilogy.

At 160k words, the first draft of Party of One, my litrpg novel coming from Aethon next year, is complete.

Given the thematic similarity between my next project and Isles of Emberdark, I'm curious to see how it does. Will the Sander Sons and Dottirs follow him into that kind of setting?

This afternoon, hopefully.

And now I’ve cracked a tooth. Brilliant.

We're renting a place this week, and it happens to have Netflix. So the wife and I finally watched the first few episodes of The Witcher last night.

That's a pretty good show.

Had a great interview with David from the Garagehammer podcast. We talked gaming, writing, books, and story. Give it a listen!

I'm disappointed we weren't able to get one last Dragon for Howard Jones. People rise, people fade away, and all we're left with are memories. Even those go, eventually.

Happy Labor Day, folks. Remember, the weekend is a socialist conspiracy.

Beautiful books are no replacement for good books

I only see these things in the brief intervals between writing and actually hanging out with people I love, and I think they might spend their time better

I’m so isolated from writer drama that I didn’t even see the writer clique debate until it was over

I’m still shocked that KW, at 5 years, is still on a lot of shelves.

Cached US Kindle giveaway, courtesy of @princejvstin.com: 10 copies of Heart of Veridon (The Burn Cycle Book 1) by @timakers.bsky.social, which I *have* but *haven't read*, but @princejvstin.com is pretty reliable.

Being in publishing has inured me to the rejection inherent in selling our house. But it has also trained me to keep checking the zillow entry to see how many people have saved the listing.

We only want Sword & Sorcery for now.

But if issue 7 really flies off the stands, we may have to consider some kind of New Edge Sword & Planet publication in the future...
bonesdrawstuff.bsky.social
I know you have a Sword & Planet issue coming, I'm curious are those kind of stories still wanted for submission? :)

Readers care less than we think

And then indies out here producing 4-6 books a year. I’ve found one a year manageable, and just contracted for 3 in 18 months. But it’s a different pace.

The AI dystopia won't be gun toting drones or algorithmically selected bombing runs. It'll be when the pyramid scheme of investment and funding that's propping up AI collapses, and the economy along with it.

Investors should hate this, because students cannot pay for a subscription and most parents won't buy one for them, which means they're using the free version of ChatGPT.

That means....no profit from the core user base. Only expenses.

Sunk-cost fallacy and cheating students are the only things keeping AI in business at this point.

Just look at how usage of ChatGPT plummets as soon as the semester ends.

Weirdly I didn't sleep well last night. So a slower start than planned. But today is a book festival day on the whole. Starting with Katie Kitamura, then Nicola Barker, and finally Hari Kunzru. Though looking at shows for later as well.

I think I took the caffeine too far and was on edge of vibrating into another universe. But a brilliant/disaster of a day, and brilliant as always to see @clhellisen.bsky.social and @echallewell.bsky.social

In genre fiction, whether it's epic fantasy, sci-fi, milsf, romantasy, or urban, realistic is the bane of entertaining. Yes, you'll turn off a tiny portion of your audience. But the majority care more about being entertained than they do about realism.
