A portion of the electorate needs to feel some pain. You can’t consistently vote for the anti-government party and expect your opponent—the only party that still assumes some duty to govern responsibly—to bail you out
This government shutdown is best understood as a fight between Dems and Trump, with Hill GOP leaders caught in the middle. Many Ds think a spending deal is a waste of time if Trump can undo parts he dislikes with rescissions (GOP appropriators realize this). And any health care deal goes thru Trump.
