October marks a year back in business! It’s been a helluva journey so far 😂 I’m proud of the strides made for this self-funded indie photo agency. To celebrate I made two web magazines!

$15 each, both for $20 - www.nwachukwu.works/-/galleries/...
You might be right 😂 I like to share SPJ’s ethics code as it covers most bases/considerations for folks working in journalism or non-journos occasionally put in these positions

I work independently and try being extra considerate of that. Even in past staff jobs minimizing harm was rule #1 to me.
For journalists (staff or independent), the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics typically is what we subscribe to:

I’m 31, past 5-6 years have been so important to unpack the ways/times I didn’t-but-tried hard to fit normative molds. This last year, I’m at a point where I can accept this AND start to love myself without worrying about patriarchal acceptance, while also enforcing real boundaries. So liberating 🤌🏾❤️
Snagged a couple t-shirts from 5B maybe 3-4 years ago and I’m shocked they’re still holding up! I love/hate that they knew my audience so well: celestial/woo and wolf packs 🤌🏾😂
I feel that 😂 But, good work is still good work! A longtime homie/colleague of mine, Aaron Reiss, was a staff writer at The Athletic; now works for Beehiiv helping indie creators to get settled on the platform. He’s not on here, but look him up if you do make the transition and he can get you set!
Have you looked at Beehiiv at all? A bunch of independent journos (myself included) use it. The platform is quite user-friendly, and the developers intentionally set it up for authors to really monetize their work (I say that with all 15 subscribers but 🤷🏾‍♂️😂)

Preorder issue one of the Protagonist Soccer Zine: "Tales of New York". I've something in it about NYC ⚽, @nyintfc.bsky.social, finding soccer clubs, and a bit about why I started covering American soccer in the first place @protagonistsoccer.bsky.social www.protagonistsoccer.com/shop/rdli1h4...

I’ve seen this a few times & this is why context w content & media literacy matters. This person is a professional photojournalist who knowingly puts his name next to his photos every time he covers something. I’m asking people to respect that. & crediting professional journalism is helpful context.
Will highlighting and crediting the photographer also make him a target???

The @chicago.suntimes.com photographer who risked their personal health and safety to take this photograph is Anthony Vazquez. Please credit photographers and media outlets. In this age of misinformation, a photo with no context could be anything at all.
Please remind us who the domestic terrorists are again.
It’s an expensive time + price cost. Reliable used cars are often priced to require down payments + bank loans. Finding a safe + cheap car is rare. One that “runs fine” requires regular work w/ a mechanic or self-instruction. Live somewhere w/o good public transit? You’re screwed that much more 🤷🏾‍♂️

“You don’t have a period but that’s fine. You’re an athlete.” A caveat accompanying countless medical results, despite inevitable danger, lines being drawn between sacrifices periods + sporting success. A piece for my sister + those challenging the system. www.nytimes.com/athletic/658...
In women’s sports, athletes losing their periods was long considered normal. Not anymore
A byproduct of wider issues, periods continue to be missed, ignored or misunderstood in elite sports

ADHD meds (thank God for non-stimulants), sleepytime tea with the melatonin, plus a couple eye drops from work screen time 🤌🏾😮‍💨

Life + work might be stressful, but I owe myself eight hours of proper sleep. I can’t do more or be better without real rest.
Reminds me of playing career mode in FIFA years ago. I could get the big players, win the games/trophies, build a massive stadium, all with billion-dollar budgets.

But at that point, then the game stopped being about fun. I’d wipe a career and start fresh if it meant I could have fun again.
This is a dope initiative, thank you for doing this! I just registered my business and will try to update it ASAP

I created an app where you can shop Black Owned Businesses on one app. It has a Mutual Aid section and so far it helped raise $150,000+ people struggling in the community. Reaching out to Blacksky to help spread this, this combo of helping Black Businesses, simultaneously giving back is amazing and-

But again, I’m alive and on my way to do some work (and get paid!). Things will (hopefully) be okay.
It feels lame to look for where to place blame. Some things just take time.

Though I do find it ironic that places saying they aren’t interested or ghosting use past work I did with Getty (my last employer). Sometimes I think I shouldn’t have left. Then I remember I likely wouldn’t be alive today 🤷🏾‍♂️
