Roughly 30 years ago, I recorded the Riven soundtrack in the basement of CYAN's offices on the KORG Trinity (and a Yamaha VL-1). Korg has recently released the Trinity as a software synth. By the way, it's on sale for $149. www.korg.com/us/products/...

Roughly 30 years ago, I recorded the Riven soundtrack in the basement of CYAN's offices on the KORG Trinity (and a Yamaha VL-1). Korg has recently released the Trinity as a software synth. By the way, it's on sale for $149. www.korg.com/us/products/...

If it were not for Bill Atkinson’s HyperCard, Rand and I would have never begun making games and we would have never made Myst and Riven. He was a gentle soul and a brilliant human. We owe so much to him.

I haven’t seen these for decades. I’m not sure these were finals, especially the grayscale map on the left. Even so, cool beans.
Thanks to the source Making of Myst footage, I was able to grab higher resolution screenshots of @tinselman.bsky.social mock working on Myst Island height and color maps. This is what I ended up with after some light cleanup in photoshop:
