When scheduling your next meeting, think:

Could this Zoom have been a phone call?
Could that phone call have been an email?
Could that email have been a text?
Could that text have been a skeet?
Could that skeet have been a thought?
Could that thought have not existed?
Could I simply cease to exist?
This bodes well for the World Baseball Classic, which takes place in Houston and Miami 6 weeks from now.

by the way, all of this, dozens of goons, weapons brandished massive teargassing of public space, people beaten in the street, destroying two intersections on either side of my neighborhood, horror, all seems to have been to create a distraction to abduct crying two teenagers who were here legally
look what they’re doing to my city. apologies for the camerawork

“The Trump administration is saying, literally, that they put zero value on human life. If your kid breathes in air pollution from a power plant or industrial source, E.P.A. is saying that they care only insofar as cleaning up that pollution would cost the emitter.”

Without new clean energy development, the average household in PJM would spend $3,000 to $8,500 more on electricity over the next decade
The Cost of No New Clean Power in PJM | ACP

If we narrow the analysis to focus only on projects that have been paused, canceled, or closed (excluding delays and reductions in size) over the past year, the lost investments (-$46.7B) far exceed newly announced investments (+$16.1B) during that time period. 🔌💡

Erik the Red has never been more vindicated
Trump is now confusing Greenland and Iceland: "They're not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you. Our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland. So Iceland has already cost us a lot of money."

There's mansplaining, and then there's mansplaining concentration camps to Andrea Pitzer
That seems like kind of a weird comparison historically. Things can be bad and not the same as a Nazi extermination camp.

MLK was the commencement speaker at my dad’s graduation from CCNY in June 1963. This was 24 hours after Medgar Evers was assassinated. I’m going to share a few paragraphs from that speech

Louansee Moua says ICE agents came to her brother-in-law’s apartment, handcuffed him and forced him outside in freezing weather in boxers.

She says Saly, a U.S. citizen, was released after they realized “he had no criminal history and no reason to be detained.”

Not to be confused with the other time that Martin Luther King, Jr. was almost assassinated, when Izola Curry stabbed him in the aorta with a letter opener in September 1958 while he was signing books in Harlem

Kind of wild when you realize MLK threw out his prepared remarks halfway through his speech at the March on Washington and improvised the entire I Have A Dream section

In 2023, Consumer Reports found that fuel economy standards are in no way responsible for rising car prices. The culprit is the shift away from cars to SUVs and trucks.

Senegal win the Africa Cup of Nations. Pape Gueye's stunning extra-time strike proved the difference.

Does that tell the full story? Not even slightly.

A questionable penalty decision in Morocco's favour, Senegal's walk-off and fury, Brahim Diaz's failed panenka.

That just scratches the surface.

For some reason, very few people these days will stand up and say it, but: the US federal bureaucracy is one of the great wonders of the world, staffed with incredibly diligent people who do their jobs well and care deeply.

Trump's destruction of the federal apparaus was a historic crime.
The Purged
Donald Trump’s destruction of the civil service is a tragedy not just for the roughly 300,000 workers who have been discarded, but for an entire nation.
