The first thing I had to write in uni that was longer than 10 pages was the bachelor’s thesis, and that got more structured supervision.

By my senior year I had worked out that I could produce about one page per hour for any writing assignment, and then it became impossible to make myself start more than N hours before the deadline. This was, as you say, unhelpful for grad school.

Time was, you contributed to an edited collection or resource and got a free copy of the thing. Now you get three months of free access to the online version. Somehow it's just not the same...

Well, I guess this is the last time I publish in a #DH conference special issue in DSH. This is a stupid exclusion.
Eligibility criteria for Austrian open access agreement with OUP. The offending passage reads: "If you are publishing your article in a Supplement, then you are not eligible to use Read and Publish funds to cover the open access charge."
