Tom Begich for Alaska
@tombegichforalaska.bsky.social
Tom Begich is a lifelong Alaskan, public servant, business owner, and musician. He listens, he leads, he gets results and he is running for Governor of Alaska. https://bit.ly/tombegich
As your Governor, I will bring working solutions directly to the people who are living with these challenges, listen to what they need, and make decisions with them, not for them.

Yesterday in Bethel, I had the privilege of meeting with leaders like Ana Hoffman, Valerie Davidson, and Stosh Hoffman. We talked openly about food access, hunting and fishing, education and ANSEP, climate resilience, and the need for safe, reliable housing and infrastructure.

Finally got to meet Tommy G, a friend of a friend and the man behind some of the best meats in Fairbanks. Stopped by his shop to pick up a few treats and ran into even more friends along the way. Nothing like being back in Fairbanks! #FairbanksAlaska #TomBegichForAlaska

I’m talking with local leaders about strengthening infrastructure so villages aren’t left vulnerable after storms. With Alaska’s resources and ingenuity, we can invest proactively in systems that keep every community safe. As Governor, I’ll plan for disasters and respond quickly.

I’m in Bethel today hearing from residents about nearby Napaskiak, where power has been out for days after the ice storm and a burst pipe has cut off running water, forcing people to travel 10 miles for food and fuel. No community should face freezing temperatures without basic utilities.

[2/2] We need a grid that can stand up to extreme weather, energy that families can actually afford, and emergency shelters that stay powered when people need them most. Resilience isn’t optional anymore.

[1/2] I’m monitoring the situation in Mat-Su closely, and my heart is with every family still without power. But let’s be honest: storms like this are no longer rare, and Alaska can’t be left scrambling.
Most Mat-Su schools closed Monday as thousands remain without power amid hurricane-force winds
Winds gusting as high as 82 mph in Palmer buffeted the region overnight. A wind warning remains in effect into Monday.

Thank you for your support Senator Kawasaki!

“I know Tom will be a great Governor, because he knows how to get the job done. As Minority Leader he took the lead in fighting for Alaskans, and for us. Working across the aisle, he locked in our priorities and delivered for Alaskans.” - Scott Kawasaki

As Native American Heritage Month ends, I’m reflecting on what I heard in Southeast: too many barriers and outside rules, and too little respect for local knowledge. Food sovereignty, safety, and self-determination are basic rights. It should be easier for communities to take care of their own.

This Thanksgiving, I'm reminded that too many Alaskan families still struggle to put food on the table while programs like SNAP are politicized. Let's uphold our values and ensure no one goes hungry. If you're able, please support your local food bank or the Food Bank of Alaska: fba.givecloud.co

Thank you for your support Senator Kiehl!

“Tom Begich has the statewide vision Alaska needs. With Tom on the Third Floor, Alaskans will finally have a governor who listens again. I’m ranking Tom Begich #1.” - Senator Jesse Kiehl

I share the Alaska Joint Armed Services Committee's concerns about the federal memo directing the Alaska National Guard to prepare a quick-reaction force for riot control. The National Guard is not a tool for political purposes or routine law enforcement.

We’re missing chances to build a stronger Alaska - but it’s not too late. I believe in our people, our resilience, and our future. Let’s do this together. www.juneauindependent.com/post/tom-beg...
Tom Begich, lone Democratic candidate for governor, says state is missing opportunities during tough times
Former state senate minority leader says "it's exactly times like this that people should step up" as he faces 12 Republican candidates who have declared so far in 2026 race.

Thank you for your hospitality, Gustavus! I appreciate you letting me stop by and share my vision for a Southeast with more trade schools and economic opportunity, more tourism and more much-needed housing. Let’s build a future that works for all of us!

Hard work, grit, and local expertise. That’s how we build things in Alaska, and the craftsmen at Small Town Custom Guitars in Gustavus are no different. Homegrown businesses are the lifeblood of the Alaskan economy, and as governor I’ll be a champion for them.

During my visit to Kake, community leaders informed me annual breast cancer screenings couldn’t take place after the ferry bringing the mammogram machines had its voyage suddenly cancelled. Our ferries are a lifeline for Southeast, it’s high time we started prioritizing them.

I’m deeply concerned by the growing Green Crab population in the Southeast. This species is an existential threat to our fishermen and our salmon harvest. All options to eradicate these crabs and protect our fisheries must be on the table.
Ever since Alaska's first European green crabs were found on Annette Island in 2022, numbers have exploded and the invaders have spread north. The Metlakatla Indian Community has trapped over 40,000 of them this year. (via @alaskabeacon.com) www.adn.com/alaska-news/...

In Kake, I saw first-hand the impact of my work on the Reads Act. With their Pre-K grant, Kake is building high-quality early education programs that will be rolled into our school funding formula. From Pre-K to UA, I’m committed to building the education system Alaska deserves.

What a joy to spend time in Haines and Klukwan with everyone who came out to our listening tour! Thank you for showing up and speaking out! Together, we can strengthen the ferry system, increase tourism and make sure young Alaskans can afford to stay in the communities they love.

Today is my birthday, but I won’t celebrate while 66K+ Alaskans are losing their food stamps. Other states set aside funds to feed poor families and sued to defend SNAP, but not ours. We must do better. As Governor, I will never back down from a fight to protect my fellow Alaskans.

Thanks to Ketchikan and Saxman for kicking off my Southeast tour with me! You spoke up about what matters: Better schools, affordable housing, reliable ferries and opportunities that keep our young people in Alaska. Change starts by listening, and that’s exactly what we're here to do.

I’m grateful to have the support of so many great friends as I begin my campaign to be Alaska's next governor. Thank you especially to @chairericcroft.bsky.social of @thealaskadems.bsky.social for generously hosting our first fundraiser as we embark on this campaign for a better future for Alaska!

It was a pleasure to spend some time on the Kenai hearing from folks in Homer, Kenai, and Soldotna and setting out my plans for well-paying jobs, great schools, and bright futures throughout Alaska. I was proud to kick off the listening tour in a place I have loved for so long. shorturl.at/7u5rm

Spoke at the No Kings Rally today. Defending democracy is the job of every Governor. It’s not being a Democrat or a Republican. It’s about being an Alaskan.
