If you are able to donate clothing and dry goods, please come see us at The Kobuk this Thursday, Friday, or Saturday and we will transport the goods in a tote to Lynden for shipment out to Western Alaska. Every bit helps.

Mine and Sarah's thoughts are with the family of Ella Mae Kashatok and the families of the two men from the village of Kwigillingok who are still missing. If you can donate funds to the relief efforts, please follow the link on our page (linked from the Alaska Native Heritage Center page).

In town for AFN? Join us at The Kobuk this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to have your voice heard by Gubernatorial candidate, Tom Begich. We will have hot chocolate and goodies for you as well as a collection point for dry goods for the hard hit areas of Western Alaska.

We have both committed to passing on the donated goods because in a crisis, we are all Alaskans. Thank you Lynden for all you're doing!

Please join us in donating dry goods for Western Alaska disaster relief. If you can't get to Lynden's location, please feel free to get it to my campaign (we can easily be found at AFN Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) or to Click Bishop for Governor.

On the eve of the 59th annual AFN Convention, I’m excited to announce the endorsement of Chuck Degnan. A proud Alaska Native, Degnan served our state admirably as a state rep and as the Bering Strait Coastal Resource Service Manager. Proud to have you on the team, Chuck!

Instead, let us also commit to ending poverty and to truly invest in education in Alaska, where 1 in 3 Alaska Native children live in poverty and 1 in 5 do not finish high school. It is not enough to honor Alaska Native’s today if we neglect their needs tomorrow. (2/2)

Today, we in Alaska proudly celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day and in Alaska honor the legacies of our first people. The strength, resiliency and stories of our Alaska Native community deserve our commemoration, but let me be clear: Celebration alone is not enough. (1/2)

Mine and Sarah’s thoughts are with all our friends in Western and Northwest Alaska today. So glad Governor Dunleavy declared a state of emergency. All Alaskans need to stand together today.

I’d like to also extend my thanks to Fairbanks Mayor David Pruhs.

While we may not have often seen eye to eye on policy, Mayor Pruhs’ dedication to his city and the civil concession he offered Mindy O’Neall after a hard-fought race deserve our respect. Thank you, David.

Congratulations to Mindy O’Neall, Jim Cooper and all the other newly-elected progressive Alaskans. When you fight for working families and an affordable Alaska, folks listen.

Public service is hard work and the highest honor you’ll ever receive. Congratulations again!

Keeping my eye on the storms brewing in the Northwest. Alaska should be gearing up for an immediate response if needed. Being prepared to assist in the face of disasters is a primary responsibility of our Government. Cont'd

For many of us Alaskans, the PFD is essential. Yet this year’s check is among the lowest ever, forcing families into impossible choices. We need a formula Alaskans can count on. One that's affordable, true to our share of Alaska’s oil wealth, and puts the 'permanent' back in Permanent Fund Dividend.

“As Minority Leader in the Senate, Tom knew how to listen, he knew how to lead, and he knew how to get things done.

Those are the skills we need now to secure our future. He’ll fight for a fair share of our resources, better schools, and a fair shake for regular Alaskans. That’s just who he is.”

“I’m excited to support Tom Begich for Governor because he has the vision and determination to pursue new, viable opportunities that strengthen our economy, and the skill and temperament to bring people together to find and implement solutions to our challenges.”
-Thank you Kay!

There's nothing rural Alaska trusts less than a new energy “study,” and with good reason. Rural Alaska deserves real plans to keep their communities strong and cut bills come winter. They know what they need, about time they had a governor who listened (3/3). tinyurl.com/zax09
Rural Alaska Deserves More Than Promises By Tom Begich
Alaska faces unique energy challenges, from the railbelt to remote fishing camps. In rural Alaska, where families face the highest energy costs in the country,

The Railbelt is suffering under crushing rate hikes and overall energy costs twice the U.S. average. It’s time we put Alaska’s energy security first and move past politics as usual to embrace Alaskan innovation and harness every resource at our disposal (2/3). tinyurl.com/tbyh8
Opinion: Alaska’s energy security must come first | Homer News
By putting Alaska’s energy security first, we can create a system that is fair, sustainable, and built for the long haul.

Multi-week power outages, annual rate increases in excess of 10% or more, and a grid less reliable than 2/3rds of the country. Alaska deserves a reliable, affordable energy plan that works for all of us, whether you live in the Railbelt or our most rural communities (1/3).

This recent news, if which appears to have been verified by our Legislative leaders and the Governor, creates a serious breach of the public trust. The Permanent Fund is our future. Reckless investments risk everyone’s livelihood. Hidden actions break the public trust.

“Alaska’s governance is now polarized and broken. Tom Begich is the only one I know who can fix it. Let’s give him the chance to do so, for us all."

As #SuicidePreventionMonth ends, my thoughts are with our veterans, LGBTQ+ youth, and Alaska Native community. The deaths your communities endure are appalling, and I grieve your losses with you. Alaska is facing an epidemic of suicide, it’s time we acted like it.
